Independent candidate Andrew Simon Ray takes Hoyland Milton ward, a first-time candidate who feels “humbled” and “shocked” that over a thousand people chose to vote for him.
His campaign slogan, “community, community, community” led him to his success, he told Sheffield Wire.
With a small team behind him, Coun Ray personally delivered 8000 leaflets to his hometown ward.
Thoughout Covid, he voluntarily delivered prescriptions for 14 weeks, which he called “campaigning without knowing.”
After meeting more and more people in this time, as well as out and about and at the pub, he decided to run as an independent candidate.
He told Sheffield Wire he’s looking forwards to helping everyday people be heard in the community.
