High-street store, Debenhams, has confirmed the date when the shops at The Moor and in Meadowhall permanently close down.
Debenhams has announced all its remaining stores in Sheffield will close on 15th May, after the company went into administration at the end of 2020.
Shoppers are clearing the shelves and making the most out of the unmissable discounts as the shops shift the last of their stock, with up to 80% off all fashion and home products.
However, Sheffield locals have been voicing their concerns about so many high-street stores closing down on The Moor.
One man said: “I think the shops are closing down because of online shopping.
“Everyone’s going online and I don’t think we’re ever going to come back from that. We’re doing the City Centre up, but it’s all with student accommodations.”
A spokesperson for Debenhams said: “We are now heading into the final days of our closing down sale and this is the very last chance for our customers to take advantage of some incredible deals.
“Over the next 10 days, Debenhams will close its doors on the high street for the final time in its 242 year history. Our sincere thanks go out to all of our colleagues and customers who have joined us on this journey.”
A statement from Debenhams also mentioned that all stores have been made COVID-secure, with appropriate hygiene and social distancing measures in place.
The long-running fashion company announced its closure at the end of last year.
Geoff Rowley of FRP Advisory, joint administrator to Debenhams and Partner at FRP, said: “All reasonable steps were taken to complete a transaction that would secure the future of Debenhams. However, the economic landscape is extremely challenging and, coupled with the uncertainty facing the UK retail industry, a viable deal could not be reached.
“The decision to move forward with a closure programme has been carefully assessed and, while we remain hopeful that alternative proposals for the business may yet be received, we deeply regret that circumstances force us to commence this course of action.”
Having already announced 52 store closures in the UK, Debenhams has announced its final 49 store closures. Shops in Doncaster and Chesterfield will be closing as early as 12th May.
