Music legends are helping a Sheffield infant school raise money for a brand new library by signing a picture of the city’s longest-running live music venue.

Hunter’s Bar Infant School is collecting signatures of artists who performed at the Leadmill before its closure last year on a print of the iconic venue. The picture, which was illustrated by local artist Greg Harris, will be sold through a raffle and the proceeds will go towards developing a modernised library.

Their Leadmill print already has autographs from notable members of the Sheffield music scene, including Richard Hawley, the Human League and Jon McClure from Reverend and the Makers.

The school has signings from other local legends lined up, with Self Esteem, Pete McKee and members of Pulp to add their names to the picture.

Joe Carnall Jnr, lead vocalist and bassist for Sheffield indie rock band, Milburn, signed the print last week. He said: “If my little scribble helps the school raise some much appreciated cash then it’s an honour.

“My whole family is from Sheffield and I’m a school teacher myself, so it’s an honour to be asked.”

Marie Anderton, a committee member of the school’s Home School Association (HSA), said: “Having the money for new resources would be huge for the school.

“A modern refresh and resources the children need would make such a difference.” The HSA hope to raise £2,000 for a new interactive library.

One lucky winner will receive the framed print alongside an album with pictures of the artists signing it.

Ms Anderton said: “Each ticket you purchase directly contributes to our efforts in making a meaningful impact in our community.”

The winner of the raffle will be announced on 6 July, before the end of the school year. You can support the fundraiser and buy a raffle ticket for a chance to win a piece of Sheffield music history here.
