{"id":79400,"date":"2026-04-27T11:45:57","date_gmt":"2026-04-27T10:45:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=79400"},"modified":"2026-04-27T11:57:50","modified_gmt":"2026-04-27T10:57:50","slug":"sheffield-sharks-host-a-celebration-ahead-of-their-final-game-of-regular-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2026\/04\/27\/sheffield-sharks-host-a-celebration-ahead-of-their-final-game-of-regular-season\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheffield Sharks host a celebration ahead of their final game of regular season"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In the Sharks&#8217; game against Manchester on Sunday, Sheffield welcomed back players from the 2000s during half time to commemorate this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As well as the final game of the season, fans were able to enjoy the nostalgia of seeing former players, such as Perry Lawson and Nicholas Lewis, on the court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"694\" src=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/IMG_5615-4-1024x694.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-79515\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.4752821891717782;width:732px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/IMG_5615-4-980x664.jpg 980w, https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/IMG_5615-4-480x325.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Fahro Alihodzic, who was signed to the Sharks&#8217; for the remainder of the season, said it was great to see their faces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It was really good for the Sheffield Sharks as a club to bring in older players to the arena so they can see where the Sharks are at now.&#8221;, Alihodzic said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The celebration also held a short memorial for players who had passed away, such as Rob Yanders and Alto Virgil. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yanders, who died in 2023, founded<a href=\"https:\/\/thebasketballmovement.com\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/thebasketballmovement.com\/\"> The Basketball Movement <\/a>which provided agility training to players in school in the US.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the celebration, the Sharks lost against Manchester, with the score ending 82-74.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the Sharks remained fourth place in the table and will play against Leicester Riders, who are fifth, in a play-off on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alihodzic said: &#8220;I think our confidence might be a little low now after the loss but we have to bring it back up and get some revenge next weekend.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>David Bell has worked with the Sharks&#8217; media team for 16 years, and is also a major fan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: &#8220;It was a bit unusual for the Sharks. I can understand that it wasn&#8217;t the most important game, but it would have been nice to get a bit of momentum going for the playoffs.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other fans, however, shared a stronger dislike to the score.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wishing to stay anonymous, one fan said: &#8220;It&#8217;s been a disappointing end to the season really. I think we&#8217;ve got some quality players but it just hasn&#8217;t been good to us lately.
