{"id":78309,"date":"2026-03-23T11:22:35","date_gmt":"2026-03-23T11:22:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=78309"},"modified":"2026-03-23T15:51:53","modified_gmt":"2026-03-23T15:51:53","slug":"film-festival-celebrates-20th-anniversary-in-the-outdoor-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2026\/03\/23\/film-festival-celebrates-20th-anniversary-in-the-outdoor-city\/","title":{"rendered":"Film festival celebrates 20th anniversary in &#8216;The Outdoor City&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Visitors from across the country flocked to Sheffield over the weekend to celebrate one of the UK&#8217;s leading platforms for adventure, environment and outdoor storytelling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sheffield Adventure Film Festival (ShAFF) celebrated its 20th anniversary at Showroom Cinema on Paternoster Row across three jam-packed, adventure-filled days over the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Matt Heason, co-founder of the festival, spoke about founding the event and how it has developed and grown over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: &#8220;It&#8217;s a celebration of the outdoors in Sheffield.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Held annually in Sheffield, a city known for its access to wild landscapes and rich creative scene, the festival brings together world class climbing, running, biking, skiing, kayaking and environmental films from across the globe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year, 104 adventure films graced attendees, with topics ranging from running and climbing, to conservation and sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Sheffield Adventure Film Festival (ShAFF) celebrates its 20th anniversary\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/k5MQUb4HAlc?feature=oembed\"  allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The films feature both elite athletes and grassroots voices, partnering with major outdoor brands like Rab. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Across two decades, the festival has built a strong reputation for thoughtful programming, a commitment to sustainability and a deep connection to community, sitting at the heart of Sheffield&#8217;s cultural calendar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Heason emphasised the vast appeal of ShAFF, saying there has been enquiries from as far as Alaska to bring films to Sheffield, highlighting the impact of the event worldwide. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/shaff.co.uk\/shaff26\/champions-of-the-golden-valley\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/shaff.co.uk\/shaff26\/champions-of-the-golden-valley\">Winner of Best Film<\/a> was Champions of the Golden Valley, directed by Ben Sturgulewski.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The film tells the story of how: &#8220;In the high peaks of Afghanistan, young villagers from rival ethnic groups \u200bbuild makeshift wooden skis and convene for a race.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The festival also featured many activities, including a temporary ski slope, installed by Revive Sheffield Ski Village, who are campaigning for funding around the reinstallation of facilities at a derelict site in Parkwood, since the Ski Village&#8217;s closure in 2012. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Visitors from across the country flocked to Sheffield over the weekend to celebrate one of the UK&#8217;s leading platforms for adventure, environment and outdoor storytelling.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":243,"featured_media":78756,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_et_pb_use_builder":"","_et_pb_old_content":"","_et_gb_content_width":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[6,133],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-78309","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","category-top-story"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
