{"id":74603,"date":"2025-11-28T12:05:02","date_gmt":"2025-11-28T12:05:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=74603"},"modified":"2025-11-28T12:24:20","modified_gmt":"2025-11-28T12:24:20","slug":"boost-in-support-for-moor-market-jacket-potato-stall-after-spudbros-hype","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2025\/11\/28\/boost-in-support-for-moor-market-jacket-potato-stall-after-spudbros-hype\/","title":{"rendered":"Boost in support for Moor Market jacket potato stall after SpudBros hype"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Jacket potatoes are having a moment in Sheffield, but instead of feeling defeated by the recent opening of a viral baked potato chain, a long standing Moor market trader is grateful for \u201ca shed load of free advertising\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The TikTok-famous SpudBros opened on the 12 November at 1pm to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c4gkdejdex1o\">queues of 400 people, lasting almost 24 hours<\/a>, according to the BBC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But customers took to social media to celebrate a much more established jacket potato trader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nick Shepherd, 57, has run The Humble Spud in the Moor Market for 33 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: \u201cI&#8217;m really happy they&#8217;ve opened in Sheffield cos it&#8217;s given me a shed load of free advertising.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He posted on Facebook that he would be open an extra day in the lead up to Christmas to Facebook and instead of receiving his usual \u2018seen by 600 people\u2019, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo\/?fbid=1304603104804653&amp;set=ecnf.100057649261641\">this post reached 99,000<\/a>, leading The Humble Spud to live up to its name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Shepherd said: \u201cIt&#8217;s really humbling if I&#8217;m honest, straight away I looked at the comments, because they said &#8216;which one would you go for?&#8217;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I kept scrolling down and pretty much every one said The Humble Spud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI know I provide a good service, we wouldn&#8217;t be here as long as we have done if we didn&#8217;t, we&#8217;re still serving people today that I was serving back then. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;People used to come here with their parents and now they&#8217;re coming here and bringing their children, you know you&#8217;re doing something right but then to see it, it really brings it home.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/IMG_0157-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"A large oven tray filled with potatoes covered in foil\" class=\"wp-image-74627\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/IMG_0157-980x653.jpg 980w, https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/IMG_0157-480x320.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Humble Spud cooks every potato in a traditional gas oven that looks Victorian, but is actually powered by a modern combi-boiler<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It is a 10 minute walk across the city centre to SpudBros on Fargate, but Mr Shepherd wishes they had opened in The Moor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: \u201cAll their customers would see me and think, you know what, he\u2019s half the price.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Humble Spud serves oven cooked potatoes with traditional fillings like beans, cheese, tuna, coleslaw and cottage cheese and charges between \u00a32.70 and \u00a35.20 for a spud, whereas the SpudBros menu ranges from \u00a35 to \u00a310.50.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: \u201cI&#8217;ve seen in the media SpudBros saying they&#8217;re doing &#8216;unique fillings&#8217; like cheese and tuna and I\u2019m thinking we&#8217;ve been doing cheese and tuna for three decades!\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jacket potatoes are having a moment in Sheffield, but instead of feeling defeated by the recent opening of a viral baked potato chain, a long standing Moor market trader is grateful for \u201ca shed load of free advertising.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":258,"featured_media":74620,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_et_pb_use_builder":"","_et_pb_old_content":"","_et_gb_content_width":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[6,1],"tags":[450,634,9,338],"class_list":["post-74603","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","category-uncategorized","tag-food","tag-moor-market","tag-sheffield","tag-south-yorkshire"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
