{"id":74475,"date":"2025-11-28T11:36:29","date_gmt":"2025-11-28T11:36:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=74475"},"modified":"2025-11-28T11:36:36","modified_gmt":"2025-11-28T11:36:36","slug":"doncasters-first-grief-awareness-event-to-address-how-little-support-is-out-there","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2025\/11\/28\/doncasters-first-grief-awareness-event-to-address-how-little-support-is-out-there\/","title":{"rendered":"Doncaster&#8217;s first grief awareness event to address &#8216;how little support is out there&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>An event to create awareness around how to navigate the process of losing a loved one is being held this weekend in Doncaster. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the run up to National Grief Awareness week from 2 to 8 December, the event titled &#8216;Coming Together Through Life and Loss&#8217; is taking place this Sunday at Memoria Doncaster in Barnby Dun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The day will host a range of activities with attendees having the opportunities to speak to a variety of people who may be involved in the grieving process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This will include specialist funeral directors, celebrants, and others experiencing bereavement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tracy Beavis, 61, set up the event as a Founding Director of the CIC (community interest company) &#8216;Found My Niche&#8217; which has been offering help since May 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When starting the peer support groups following the loss of her parents, she saw a significant gap in people being able to access affordable help and has since become a Certified Grief Specialist. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said: &#8220;Every day it becomes more and more apparent just how little support there is out there, or if there is support people don&#8217;t know about it.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event is in collaboration with Be Well Doncaster, a community health and wellbeing organisation, so people can be reliably informed about both grief and the week of awareness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/585915843_122222946218257245_2836501247050048640_n-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-74515\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/585915843_122222946218257245_2836501247050048640_n-980x551.jpg 980w, https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/585915843_122222946218257245_2836501247050048640_n-480x270.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Public invite to the event<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It has been promoted to be a multi-generational, multi-cultural and multi-faith gathering so everyone is welcome and parents are being encouraged to bring children along.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mrs Beavis said: &#8220;The sooner children learn about grief and dying, the more normalised it&#8217;ll become and the less of a stigma there will be linked to it.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She highlighted the importance of people being able to talk about their loved ones in a space free of judgement and hopes this event furthers that message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Talking about her work being a vehicle to bridge the gap of accessing support she said: &#8220;We&#8217;re here to stay and we&#8217;re not just a flash in the pan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;What we&#8217;re doing is making a difference and I will keep banging that drum.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An event to create awareness around how to navigate the process of losing a loved one is being held this weekend in Doncaster.
