{"id":72457,"date":"2025-03-24T16:05:08","date_gmt":"2025-03-24T16:05:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=72457"},"modified":"2025-03-24T16:05:11","modified_gmt":"2025-03-24T16:05:11","slug":"thousands-run-sheffield-half-marathon-to-raise-funds-for-charity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2025\/03\/24\/thousands-run-sheffield-half-marathon-to-raise-funds-for-charity\/","title":{"rendered":"Thousands run Sheffield Half Marathon to raise funds for charity"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Yesterday saw over 6000 runners take part in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.runforall.com\/events\/half-marathon\/sheffield-half-marathon\/\">Run For All\u2019s<\/a> yearly Sheffield Half Marathon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 13.1 mile (21km) route began in the city centre, before runners ran to the Norfolk Arms in Ringinglow and returned back via Ecclesall Road. Overall the race had a 259m elevation gain.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tommy Power, from the <a href=\"https:\/\/hallamshireharriers.co.uk\/\">Hallamshire Harriers<\/a> placed first this year, with a time of one hour and eight minutes. The fastest female runner was Claire Frankland, who placed 37th with a time of one hour and seventeen minutes.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants ran for a variety of charities, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DHiWYZms2np\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&amp;igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==\">over \u00a317,000 <\/a>being raised for St Luke\u2019s Hospice.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Susan Glaves was the final participant to cross the finish line, she was raising money for the children&#8217;s hospital. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said: &#8220;Everybody in Sheffield knows how much the hospital [does] and what it means to everyone [in the city]&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While some sported their charity t-shirts, others went for a more high-profile outfit. A group raising money for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golddiggertrust.co.uk\/\">Golddigger Trust<\/a>, a youth charity which runs wellbeing events for young people, opted for banana and minion outfits. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They said: \u201cWe really want to raise the profile of the charity, we wanted to do something that would mark us out and make people recognise the Golddigger Trust and the amazing work that they\u2019re doing\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"582\" src=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Image-24-03-2025-at-15.24-1024x582.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-72570\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Image-24-03-2025-at-15.24-980x557.jpeg 980w, https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Image-24-03-2025-at-15.24-480x273.jpeg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Participants raising money for the Golddigger Trust<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A group of teenagers also ran to raise money for the anti-knife crime charity Always An Alternative in memory of the Sheffield teenager Harvey Willgoose who was stabbed in school last month and later died in hospital. The group raised over \u00a33,500 for the cause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c7893z2vk2ro\">Speaking to the BBC<\/a>, Caroline Willgoose, Harvey\u2019s mother, said: \u201cHarvey would be so proud of all of his friends getting the message across. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Things like this are uplifting and getting us through this horrific time. I\u2019m so proud of them.
