{"id":72218,"date":"2025-03-17T16:21:39","date_gmt":"2025-03-17T16:21:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=72218"},"modified":"2025-03-17T16:21:40","modified_gmt":"2025-03-17T16:21:40","slug":"sheffield-hosts-first-multi-faith-iftar-at-town-hall-to-unite-communities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2025\/03\/17\/sheffield-hosts-first-multi-faith-iftar-at-town-hall-to-unite-communities\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheffield hosts first multi-faith iftar at town hall to unite communities"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Over 200 people from across Sheffield broke their fast together at the city\u2019s first multi-faith iftar event.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event was hosted in the town hall by Pakistan Muslim Centre and Sheffield City Council on 16 March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event aimed to unite all communities across Sheffield to show solidarity during Ramadan.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nighat Basharat, councillor and Vice Chair of the Pakistan Muslim Community, said: \u201cIt was an honour to do one of the first iftars at the town hall.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe whole purpose was to bring iftar out to the wider community, people from all backgrounds and ethnicities were present here today.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lord Mayor Jayne Dunn attended the event and gave a speech.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ifran Khan, Chair of the Pakistan Muslim Centre, said: \u201cThe Lord Mayor attending today signifies that she is part of our community.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe is uniting all the communities and all the bridges that have been broken.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cllr Basharat said the organisers hope to make the celebration an annual event in Sheffield.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the event had previously been hosted in the Peace Gardens, Sunday was the first time the iftar happened in Sheffield\u2019s town hall.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Councillor Tom Hunt said: \u201cBy hosting an iftar here we are saying that people of all faiths, communities, and backgrounds are welcome here in the town hall\u201d.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over 200 people from across Sheffield broke their fast together at the city\u2019s first multi-faith iftar event.&nbsp; The event was hosted in the town hall by Pakistan Muslim Centre and Sheffield City Council on 16 March.
