{"id":70397,"date":"2024-12-13T16:25:48","date_gmt":"2024-12-13T16:25:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=70397"},"modified":"2024-12-13T16:25:49","modified_gmt":"2024-12-13T16:25:49","slug":"dinnington-community-boxing-club-secures-funding-to-continue-youth-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/12\/13\/dinnington-community-boxing-club-secures-funding-to-continue-youth-work\/","title":{"rendered":"Dinnington Community Boxing Club secures funding to continue youth work"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Young people in Rother Valley will continue to be supported by Dinnington Community Boxing Club as it receives \u00a3336,000 National Lottery funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The club came about through the community\u2019s concern that young people had nothing to do in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since opening in 2019, the club has worked with schools and partners to provide sports activities for young people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jake Richards, MP for Rother Valley, said: \u201cThis is fantastic news for the local community and means the club can continue their work with young people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The club also works with disability groups, women and girls and adult boxers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the last year, they\u2019ve had over 8,000 people come through their doors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The funding, which will last until April 2027, will allow them to keep their staff and their home at Dinnington High School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They will also be able to hire two youth development coaches so that they have capacity to support more students and young people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/allianceofsport.org\/news\/new-research-shows-boxing-combats-anti-social-behaviour\/\">Alliance of Sport and Criminal Justice<\/a>, research shows that boxing combats anti-social behaviour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Richards said: \u201cThe club does valuable work providing alternative provision to young peopleand supporting children\u2019s physical and mental wellbeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The club is planning to promote the positive impact boxing has on young people in parliament in the spring as part of a wider network with Empire Fighting Chance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ian Huddleston, CEO said: \u201cWe hope to develop our alternative provision programme and take our model, which isn\u2019t done anywhere else in the UK, to new academies and schools.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Featured image (Source &#8211; Andrew Musgrave). <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Young people in Rother Valley will continue to be supported by Dinnington Community Boxing Club as it receives \u00a3336,000 National Lottery funding.
