{"id":68937,"date":"2024-12-06T11:54:57","date_gmt":"2024-12-06T11:54:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=68937"},"modified":"2024-12-06T12:23:15","modified_gmt":"2024-12-06T12:23:15","slug":"storm-darragh-yellow-warning-issued-for-sheffield","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/12\/06\/storm-darragh-yellow-warning-issued-for-sheffield\/","title":{"rendered":"Storm Darragh: yellow warning issued for Sheffield"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Storm Darragh is most likely to affect Sheffield this weekend as a yellow warning has been issued by the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.metoffice.gov.uk\/\"> Met Office<\/a> for Yorkshire, with wind speeds expected to reach up to 70mph.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Heavy rain is also expected to impact Sheffield during the weekend, as indicated by the rainfall period experienced yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Around 20-30 mm of rain is expected widely around the UK while some areas may receive rainfall up 50-60 mm.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/StormDarragh?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#StormDarragh<\/a> has been named and is forecast to bring very strong winds and heavy rain to the UK later on Friday and through the weekend <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/WeatherAware?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#WeatherAware<\/a> \u26a0\ufe0f <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/xqPH9hvqxs\">pic.twitter.com\/xqPH9hvqxs<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Met Office (@metoffice) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/metoffice\/status\/1864604892020490266?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 5, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>People are also being advised to be wary of flying debris during Storm Darragh as it could lead to injuries and may potentially pose a danger to life. The strong winds of the storm may even cause damage to buildings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jason Kelly, Met Office Chief Forecaster, said: \u201cStorm Darragh is an evolving system and will bring several hazards which could include power cuts and traffic disruptions.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sheffield.gov.uk\/roads-pavements\/streets-ahead\">Streets Ahead<\/a>, responsible for highway maintenance works across Sheffield, have set up additional teams on standby from Friday noon to Monday 7am, in preparation for Storm Darragh\u2019s impact on Sheffield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Morning <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Sheffield?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Sheffield<\/a>.
