{"id":68634,"date":"2024-11-29T16:35:44","date_gmt":"2024-11-29T16:35:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=68634"},"modified":"2024-11-29T16:36:56","modified_gmt":"2024-11-29T16:36:56","slug":"national-video-game-museum-to-host-late-night-christmas-bonanza","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/11\/29\/national-video-game-museum-to-host-late-night-christmas-bonanza\/","title":{"rendered":"National Video Game Museum to host late-night Christmas bonanza"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The National Video Game Museum (NVM) is set to organize the Christmas Lates event for video game enthusiasts in Sheffield, as part of a range of &#8220;brilliant&#8221; outreach projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visitors will be able stay in late to play video games, and explore the rich history of gaming over the last 50 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Events such as Christmas Lates are key to the museum\u2019s efforts to sustain itself, and to raise funds for a variety of projects to support social communities around Sheffield.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Christian Beckett, Marketing and Communications Officer at NVM, said: \u201cIt highlights the people-centred approach to working that connects with our wider community engaging audiences both during and after its creation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Playing with Power\u2019 is one of these &#8220;people-centred&#8221; initiatives, which allows Sheffield\u2019s sanctuary-seeking community a unique way of telling their stories as videogames.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project comes from a collaboration between The National Videogame Museum and the Stand and Be Counted Theatre.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Young kids from Sheffield\u2019s sanctuary-seeking community are learning to create video games with help from Biome Collective, an independent video game studio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Attendees can see the exhibition at the NVM which displays the learning process and impact of the \u2018Playing with Power\u2019 project.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Beckett said: \u201cThe overall objective of the project was to challenge conventional videogame narratives, promote inclusivity, engage underrepresented audiences through digital innovation and make the NVM a more relevant space for all of our communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> &#8220;It was a brilliant and extremely rewarding project and all organisations involved are looking forward to collaborating again in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_20241129_142117-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-68679\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_20241129_142117-980x735.jpg 980w, https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/IMG_20241129_142117-480x360.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Doom II (1994) ID Software, GT Interactive | Photo credit: Moulik Mathur<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;The late opening hours will be a first for the museum which typically closes by 4-5 pm on weekdays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While video games attract both children and adults, these sessions will solely be for attendees over the age of 18.\u00a0This will allow the museum to host a Mortal Kombat tournament, given the game\u2019s R rating.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Christmas Lates sessions will run 5:30-8:30pm on Wednesdays-Fridays, starting from December 4 up until December 20.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking ahead, the museum is also preparing to introduce \u2018Illuminate The Play\u2019 later in December where gamers can partake in LED gaming experiences.
