{"id":68507,"date":"2024-11-29T15:59:47","date_gmt":"2024-11-29T15:59:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=68507"},"modified":"2024-11-29T16:48:52","modified_gmt":"2024-11-29T16:48:52","slug":"pro-palestinian-groups-outside-of-sheffield-town-hall-call-the-government-and-councils-actions-cowardly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/11\/29\/pro-palestinian-groups-outside-of-sheffield-town-hall-call-the-government-and-councils-actions-cowardly\/","title":{"rendered":"Pro-Palestinian groups outside of Sheffield Town Hall call the government and council&#8217;s actions &#8220;cowardly&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Pro-Palestinian groups that have rallied outside of Sheffield&#8217;s Town Hall on the UN Day of Solidarity have described the actions of Sheffield Council and the government as &#8220;cowardly&#8221;. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Julie Pearn, the chair of the Sheffield Labour Friends of Palestine group who urged Sheffield City Council to fly the Palestinian flag today, has expressed her disappointment with the leaders of the council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said: &#8220;The city council has really been very reluctant, cowardly and obstructive. We have many friends amongst the councillors, but the leadership of the council has been very disappointing.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Pro-Palestinian Rally at Sheffield Town Hall\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WQsstkHEZ6g?feature=oembed\"  allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Many activists at the rally were disheartened by Keir Starmer and the Labour government&#8217;s actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alexi Dimond, Gleadless Valley&#8217;s Green Party Councillor, believes that what has happened in South Yorkshire today sends a message to the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: &#8220;I think this sends a clear message to Keir Starmer that we will stand with the Palestinian people.
