{"id":68332,"date":"2024-11-29T13:55:02","date_gmt":"2024-11-29T13:55:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=68332"},"modified":"2024-11-29T14:48:01","modified_gmt":"2024-11-29T14:48:01","slug":"sheffield-christmas-market-named-one-of-best-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/11\/29\/sheffield-christmas-market-named-one-of-best-uk\/","title":{"rendered":"No lights, no problem: Sheffield Christmas Market still one of the best in the UK"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Despite the festive lights switch-on being cancelled for a second-consecutive year, Sheffield\u2019s Christmas Market has still received plaudits in an online feature by <em>The Independent<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Construction work in Fargate raised safety concerns for large crowds gathering in the city centre, and so the annual event was cancelled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The festive market still received praise in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/travel\/uk\/best-christmas-markets-uk-b2645548.html\">the listing<\/a>, which said: &#8220;Over 60 log cabins feature all the clothing, trinkets, crafts and stocking fillers you can lay your hands on, while three Alpine Bars, a traditional German sausage grill and many other food and drink experiences mean you won\u2019t go hungry while browsing.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Santa&#8217;s Grotto and the &#8220;new-for-2024 illuminated helter skelter&#8221; were also highlighted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The market is named alongside those in other major UK cities, such as London, Birmingham and Edinburgh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sheffield City Council said: \u201cWe&#8217;re proud to showcase lots of lovely local, independent sellers across more than 60 log cabins stretching from Town Hall Square to the bottom of The Moor.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The market hosts a variety of independent traders, with<a href=\"https:\/\/sheffieldchristmasmarkets.co.uk\/\"> 80% <\/a>being local businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Sheffield Christmas Market named one of the best in the UK\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_uD7TuDi3sA?feature=oembed\"  allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Derek Hawkins from <a href=\"https:\/\/hawkinsdistillery.co.uk\/\">Hawkins Distillery<\/a> shared that this was the business\u2019 second year trading at Sheffield Christmas Market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said some stalls that have been trading for many years feel footfall is down due to the works in Fargate, but are generally positive about trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: \u201cIt is just getting progressively busier, which is great.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lenka from <a href=\"https:\/\/theyorkshireprintcompany.co.uk\/pages\/contact-us\">The Yorkshire Print Company<\/a> said the market wouldn\u2019t be the same without local traders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said: \u201cIt\u2019s great to bring a little bit of Yorkshire to Yorkshire people, it\u2019s the way it should be.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Francesca, a trader at <a href=\"https:\/\/beautyscentscandles.co.uk\/\">Beauty Scents Candles<\/a>, said: \u201cIf you see that in the paper and you live a bit further away, you\u2019ll think \u2018why wouldn\u2019t I have a day out in Sheffield?\u2019 I think it\u2019s great for the market.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Market will be open until Christmas Eve, from 10am every day.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Despite the festive lights switch-on being cancelled for a second-consecutive year, Sheffield\u2019s Christmas Market has still received plaudits in an online feature by The Independent.
