It will now take place this Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Katy Scott, Sheffield, ran her first Percy Pud in 2022 whilst dressed as a Christmas Pudding and will be taking part in this year&#8217;s race in the same costume to raise money for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lucyfaithfull.org.uk\/\">The Lucy Faithfull Foundation<\/a> which work to prevent child sexual abuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-soundcloud wp-block-embed-soundcloud\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Katy Scott Interview by Evans\" width=\"1080\" height=\"400\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?visual=true&#038;url=https%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Ftracks%2F1969921075&#038;show_artwork=true&#038;maxheight=1000&#038;maxwidth=1080\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>She said: &#8220;I feel quite lucky that I picked the Percy Pud for my first 10k. I remember just running along and to my left was a Santa and on my right were matching elves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;There was music, chariots of fire and Christmas tunes blaring out from the pubs as we passed, and I was just carried along on this big happy cloud.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As well as prizes for the top finishers in five age categories, every participant wins a Christmas pudding, inspired by a pre-war local runner named Percy who attributed winning his first race on Boxing Day to eating a whole Christmas pudding the day before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The race starts and finishes on Loxley Road and takes participants around the outskirts of northwest Sheffield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"538\" height=\"273\" src=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Percy-Pud-Map-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-68417\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Percy-Pud-Map-1.jpg 538w, https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Percy-Pud-Map-1-480x244.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 538px, 100vw\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Percy Pud 10k route (credit: Steel City Striders)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>So far Katy has raised \u00a31300 out of her \u00a32000 goal for The Lucy Faithfull Foundation, which protects children and supports individuals and families who have been affected by abuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said: \u201cThe charity means a huge amount to me, and I am very proud to be raising money for and to be talking openly about this cause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHad I been more aware about child sexual abuse, 30 years ago, when my two children were young, perhaps I could have prevented my own daughter from being sexually abused for four years as a child from someone within our own family. Or at least I could have recognised it was happening and stopped it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lucy Faithfull Foundation also offers help and advice for parents and carers and supporting individuals and families who have been affected by the abuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They work with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stopitnow.org.uk\/\">Stop it Now<\/a> who have an anonymous helpline for anyone with concerns about child sexual abuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Katy said: \u201cI find other charities, perhaps ones that make us feel less uncomfortable, seem to get a lot more public airtime. People are just very uncomfortable talking about child sexual abuse.
