{"id":62575,"date":"2024-04-22T16:49:01","date_gmt":"2024-04-22T15:49:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=62575"},"modified":"2024-04-22T16:56:34","modified_gmt":"2024-04-22T15:56:34","slug":"supertram-south-yorkshire-mayor-considering-extension-to-sheffield-hospital-stocksbridge-and-chesterfield","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/04\/22\/supertram-south-yorkshire-mayor-considering-extension-to-sheffield-hospital-stocksbridge-and-chesterfield\/","title":{"rendered":"Supertram: South Yorkshire mayor considering extension to Sheffield Hospital, Stocksbridge and Chesterfield"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Sheffield&#8217;s supertram could be extended to Sheffield&#8217;s hospitals as it embarks on a new era under public control.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>South Yorkshire mayor Oliver Coppard is exploring routes to Stocksbridge and even Chesterfield &#8220;with potential for more such as connecting to hospitals&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority took over last month from private company Stagecoach after 27 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coppard, at the time, said: &#8220;Today is a historic day for South Yorkshire; it\u2019s one small step for the tram, but it\u2019s the first step in our journey back to a public transport system that puts people first, connecting our communities and helping us to build a bigger and better economy.&#8221;<br><br>Plans to build a new station at Magna in Rotherham, which will service the neighbourhoods of Blackburn Meadows, Templeborough, and Deepdale, are already in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Labour Cllr Alan Rhodes took to X and voiced his opinion on the initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: \u201cAn excellent idea. Anyone who has had to use any of the city\u2019s hospitals, especially if they have travelled from outside Sheffield knows how difficult the parking situation is. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This will make a huge difference to patients and staff.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">An excellent idea.
