{"id":60834,"date":"2024-04-15T13:45:55","date_gmt":"2024-04-15T12:45:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=60834"},"modified":"2024-04-15T13:45:57","modified_gmt":"2024-04-15T12:45:57","slug":"former-british-champion-boxer-dies-aged-45","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/04\/15\/former-british-champion-boxer-dies-aged-45\/","title":{"rendered":"Former British champion boxer dies aged 45"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Laura Paterson, PA Scotland<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Former British and Commonwealth champion boxer Willie Limond has died at the age of 45, his boxing club has confirmed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Limond fell ill last week amid preparations for a fight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A statement from the Scot\u2019s boxing club, the St Andrew\u2019s Sporting Club, read: \u201cEveryone at St Andrew\u2019s Sporting Club are shocked and deeply saddened at the loss of our friend, Willie Limond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWillie was not only a legend of the sport, but an infectious character who will be greatly missed by us all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur thoughts and prayers are with Jake, Drew, Macy and the rest of the Limond family at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Former opponent Curtis Woodhouse was among those to pay tribute to Limond who beat Woodhouse to retain his Commonwealth light-welterweight title at Glasgow\u2019s Braehead Arena in 2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Absolutely devastated to hear the news of the passing of Willie Limond, a great fighter and a great man.
