{"id":60658,"date":"2024-04-15T11:52:41","date_gmt":"2024-04-15T10:52:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=60658"},"modified":"2024-04-15T13:35:43","modified_gmt":"2024-04-15T12:35:43","slug":"will-vaulks-wins-efl-community-of-the-year-award-for-crucial-charity-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/04\/15\/will-vaulks-wins-efl-community-of-the-year-award-for-crucial-charity-work\/","title":{"rendered":"Will Vaulks wins EFL Community of the Year award for crucial charity work"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Sheffield Wednesday footballer, Will Vaulks, won the English Football League Community Player of the Year award last night for his work for the Bluebell Wood Children&#8217;s Hospice and Baton of Hope, a suicide prevention service.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The EFL awards celebrate and recognise the continued efforts and achievements of Championship, League One and League Two clubs, players and individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking after collecting the award, 30-year-old Mr Vaulks said: \u201cIt\u2019s really important we raise awareness for off the pitch matters, it\u2019s nice to be recognised and win an award for the things that mean a lot to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhat we do off the pitch is so important, as footballers we have a platform to give back, and I\u2019m really grateful I can do that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sheffield Wednesday expressed their congratulations and pride for their midfielders&#8217; achievement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">HE\u2019S DONE IT! \ud83c\udf89 <br><br>Will Vaulks wins the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EFL?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@EFL<\/a> Community Player of the Year Award! \ud83c\udfc6<br><br>Thoroughly deserved for a man who gives so much back \ud83d\udc4f <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/swfc?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#swfc<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/fer9EZ6Mxa\">pic.twitter.com\/fer9EZ6Mxa<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Sheffield Wednesday (@swfc) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/swfc\/status\/1779586967140770190?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 14, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The moment Will Vaulks won the EFL Community Player of the Year (@SWFC on X)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the third time that Mr Vaulks has won the award for the Championship division, but the first time he has won the overall title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Vaulks was a crucial part of the Baton of Hope relay race which took place last summer and saw bereaved family members carrying the silver baton from Glasgow to London.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He became involved in the charity after both his grandfathers took their own lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bluebell Wood Children&#8217;s Hospice is based in Sheffield and has helped families in the area who wanted an alternative to hospital care for more than 15 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Vaulks re-pledged his support to the hospice when he signed for Sheffield Wednesday, he said: &#8220;It is the most worthy cause you can imagine.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The awards took place at Grosvenor House in London and also saw awards for best manager, best club and community project of the season, as well as many others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sheffield Wednesday footballer, Will Vaulks, won the English Football League Community Player of the Year award last night for his work for the Bluebell Wood Children&#8217;s Hospice and Baton of Hope, a suicide prevention service.
