People are watching and bringing their kids. We\u2019re seeing new people all the time &#8211; new faces coming in with their robots, whether it\u2019s professional engineers or a parent and child who are just giving it a go.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPeople are coming from as far as Bristol or the far reaches of Scotland to fight here.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"806\" height=\"553\" src=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Screenshot-2024-03-18-1136044.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-56190\" style=\"width:711px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Screenshot-2024-03-18-1136044.png 806w, https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Screenshot-2024-03-18-1136044-480x329.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 806px, 100vw\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">SCAR&#8217;s Gus Collier (Source: Q Cummins) <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Unlike the televised competition, in which the robots could weigh well over 100kg and be expensive and time-consuming to build, Saturday\u2019s event was restricted to a maximum weight of 1.5kg, making the competition more accessible to roboteers from all walks of life.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dylan Stanley, one of the roboteers competing in the tournament, told Sheffield Wire: \u201cMy son started watching old <em>Robot Wars <\/em>on<em> Dave <\/em>with his grandfather, and came back and said \u2018Can we do it?\u2019&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAt the time, I thought our only option was to do the large robots &#8211; the 150 kilo ones that are \u00a320,000, so I said no, we can\u2019t do it, it\u2019s too expensive.
