Credit: bdrmm YouTube<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The band\u2019s second album, released in June last year, showcases hazy, opaque melodies, bounding electronic sounds, and an overall euphoric and dystopian feel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The name bdrmm nods to the creation of the band, which started out as a bedroom project. Lead vocalist, Ryan Smith, said: I just started writing some demos on my iPhone in my room just out of boredom and then I created a couple of EPs, put them on a BBC Introducing Upload and one of them got played.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThen I thought, &#8216;I should get a band together.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The dream-pop band is composed of Ryan Smith, his brother Jordan Smith (vocals and bass), Joe Vickers (guitar and bass), and Conor Murray (drums). Credit: Katherine Cantwell, via NME.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After touring, releasing two self-recorded demo EPs, and a few singles, the band was signed to <a href=\"https:\/\/soniccathedral.co.uk\/\">Sonic Cathedral<\/a> in 2019. Their official debut EP \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/6YankLkdAeJvZWXeAnqvBG?autoplay=true\">If Not, When?<\/a>\u2019 was released later that year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking of his favourite moment with the band so far, the lead vocalist said: \u201cThe past two days have been pretty special with <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/DIIV\">DIIV<\/a>. We also supported <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mogwai\">Mogwai<\/a> last year. That was unreal, and then we signed with them. Also holding the first vinyl &#8211; that was a real hangover cure moment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their 10-track debut album \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/7itRrAfbJnabbvrGRE7kFm\">Bedroom<\/a>\u2019 was released in early 2020 and showcased an elevation of their previous singles, both musically and lyrically. It entered the Official UK Charts on three separate occasions, ended up in Rough Trade\u2019s Top 10 albums of 2020 and was declared by The Guardian, \u201cone of the underground hits of lockdown.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2023, the band signed with Mogwai&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rock_Action_Records\">Rock Action Records<\/a>, and released their second album. When asked to describe their new album in three words, Ryan said: \u201cIt\u2019s much more electronic. The music comes from things that have happened to me but I wanted to try and create a feel from somebody else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s almost like coming from someone else&#8217;s mind and it\u2019s just like their diary entries of how they&#8217;re surviving in this world now. So it\u2019s a bit more of a dystopian take rather than personal.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: I Don&amp;apos;t Know\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"352\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/album\/2cNtBpejkWMdxrN94XuR8z?utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>bdrmm&#8217;s second album, &#8216;I Don&#8217;t Know&#8217; is available on Spotify.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Described as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/bdrmm\">\u201cmodern day shoegaze classic,\u201d<\/a> four-piece band are collectively inspired by the likes of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Radiohead\">Radiohead<\/a>, but also have hints of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Cure\">The Cure<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ride_(band)\">RIDE<\/a> in their music.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their favourite touring moment so far is when they performed at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alexandrapalace.com\/\">Alexandra Palace<\/a> with Mogwai last year. Ryan said: \u201cWe were playing in probably one of the biggest venues in England. It was just a proper pinch me moment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interestingly, Ryan&#8217;s favourite thing about touring is the service station stops. He said: \u201cThere\u2019s just so much variety and it\u2019s nice when you\u2019re in a van all the time.
