The UK\u2019s oldest football phone-in show paid homage to a viral phone call on Friday after broadcasting live from a Doncaster pub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Salutation, on South Parade in the city centre, played host to BBC Radio Sheffield and sports fans from across the region as its Football Heaven <\/em>show came live from the pub\u2019s beer garden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It followed a call to Praise or Grumble<\/em> \u2013 the show\u2019s fan phone-in since 1986<\/a> \u2013 on 3 February after Doncaster Rovers\u2019 draw against Sutton United, which host Rob Staton described as \u201cthe weirdest call I\u2019ve ever had,\u201d in 14 years of hosting the show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n During the 90-second call, a Rovers fan known only as \u2018Paul\u2019 addressed many issues before abruptly signing off by saying: \u201cI\u2019m off to Sal for a pint. See you later mate,\u201d leaving Mr Staton and listeners bewildered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A clip of the call later went viral on X \u2013 gathering more than 800,000 views over multiple posts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
