{"id":51471,"date":"2024-02-26T13:51:44","date_gmt":"2024-02-26T13:51:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=51471"},"modified":"2024-02-26T13:51:45","modified_gmt":"2024-02-26T13:51:45","slug":"outdoor-festival-returns-to-sheffield","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/02\/26\/outdoor-festival-returns-to-sheffield\/","title":{"rendered":"Outdoor festival returns to Sheffield"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>A series of sporting events and activities will be coming to Sheffield next month to celebrate the city&#8217;s outdoor culture<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Festival of the Outdoors will take place throughout the whole of March, with a diverse programme ranging from climbing competitions to marathon running.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Originating as a single weekend, the festival returns for its fifth iteration, with events set to take place across the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lineup includes the Climbing Works International Festival, a skateboard jam, inclusive cycling, orienteering, guided nature and historical walks, and a half marathon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Graeme Alderson, Co-owner of the Climbing Works and organiser of the CWIF said: \u201cIt\u2019s another big year for climbing with attention ramping up ahead of Paris 2024, so all eyes will be on the international athletes coming to Sheffield to take part in the CWIF in March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"890\" height=\"777\" src=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/climbing.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-51684\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/climbing.png 890w, https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/climbing-480x419.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 890px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Climbing Works International Festival. Credit: Marketing Sheffield<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSheffield\u2019s reputation is pretty well documented in the climbing community already, but being part of the Festival of the Outdoors gives us a great opportunity to increase awareness with those that don\u2019t know climbing, The Climbing Works, or even Sheffield more generally, and really demonstrate the part we and this city play in this international sport.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cllr Martin Smith, Chair of the Economic Development and Skills Committee at Sheffield City Council, said: \u201cAs the Outdoor City, Sheffield is the UK&#8217;s leading destination for outdoor adventure and city culture wrapped into one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGreenspace is a vital part of Sheffield\u2019s culture, and influences much of life for people in Sheffield.
