{"id":49422,"date":"2023-12-08T16:50:20","date_gmt":"2023-12-08T16:50:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=49422"},"modified":"2024-03-12T14:42:01","modified_gmt":"2024-03-12T14:42:01","slug":"millers-fans-irritated-as-managerial-search-drags-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2023\/12\/08\/millers-fans-irritated-as-managerial-search-drags-on\/","title":{"rendered":"Millers fans irritated as managerial search drags on"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Rotherham United fans have expressed frustration at their club\u2019s search to find a new manager almost a month after Matt Taylor was sacked.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was reported in the Rotherham Advertiser yesterday that former Wigan Athletic manager Leam Richardson was on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rotherhamadvertiser.co.uk\/sport\/football\/rotherham-united\/leam-richardson-poised-for-rotherham-united-hot-seat-4437395\">verge of taking over<\/a> in the Millers hotseat and could have been in place before their match against Swansea City tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, no official confirmation has been made by the club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Danny Ogden-Glaves, co-host of <em>New York Talk <\/em>podcast described fans\u2019 irritation in the delay to an appointment being confirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: \u201cI think the general saga is almost turning into Star Wars at the minute with Rotherham United. I think a lot of fans just want the appointment to be done now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Matt Taylor was relieved of his duties at the Millers in mid-November after a 5-0 defeat to Watford.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since then, he has been appointed as manager of League One side Bristol. His assistant at the Millers, Wayne Carlisle, has been in temporary charge of the Millers alongside Dan Green and Scott Brown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Ogden-Glaves, 24, said the elongated process has left the Millers with little time to prepare for the January transfer window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: \u201cI don\u2019t know why it\u2019s taken so long. The closer we get to the window, the less time they have to identify the areas that need the most improvement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The club currently sit 23<sup>rd<\/sup> in the Championship, seven points from safety. They are without a win since October but have picked up vital draws in that time against high-flyers Ipswich Town and Leeds United, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other names who were in contention for the position was former Luton Town and Southampton manager Nathan Jones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Welshman was in the stands at St Andrews last Saturday to watch the Millers hold Birmingham City to a 0-0 draw but reportedly left before the end of the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Ogden-Glaves thinks it is still possible for United to survive, but admitted a lot of work would need to be done for this to happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: \u201cWhatever manager comes in, it\u2019s going to be a tall order to hit the ground running.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve seen turnaround in shorter periods and I think if the new manager comes in, is supported and gets a tune out of the players, then I can\u2019t see any reason why we can\u2019t stay up.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rotherham United play host to Swansea City at the AESSEAL New York Stadium tomorrow, with the match kicking off at 3pm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rotherham United fans have expressed frustration at their club\u2019s search to find a new manager almost a month after Matt Taylor was sacked.
