A Sheffield Hospice was forced to cancel its \u2018Festival of Light\u2019 fundraiser due to last weekend’s snow<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

St Luke’s hosts a range of annual Christmas fundraisers throughout December to raise money for their patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event is held at their hospice which is the second oldest in Britain and it relies on donations from the people of Sheffield to support its patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John Highfield, Public Relations Manager at St Luke\u2019s Hospice said: \u201cWe only get a fraction of our funding from the NHS. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It’s probably less than a quarter now, which means that every year we’ve got to raise with the support of the people of
Sheffield over \u00a37,000,000 because we are completely free as a service.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The annual Service of Celebration and Remembrance is another of their upcoming events held at the Cathedral every December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This event is a carol service open to anyone, St Luke\u2019s encourage their patients to attend with their family members if they are well enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Highfield said: \u201cIt\u2019s a lovely atmosphere because the wonderful setting of the cathedral, it makes it feel very special, this year it coincides with the cathedral’s Christmas tree festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt gives people an opportunity to give thanks for those people they’ve lost. And remember them and share those memories.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event starts at 2pm and there will be music from the Sheffield philharmonic chorus, Stonington Brass band and Abbey Lane Junior School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
