{"id":48327,"date":"2023-12-01T14:05:17","date_gmt":"2023-12-01T14:05:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=48327"},"modified":"2023-12-01T16:42:04","modified_gmt":"2023-12-01T16:42:04","slug":"locals-brand-crookes-community-garden-an-eyesore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2023\/12\/01\/locals-brand-crookes-community-garden-an-eyesore\/","title":{"rendered":"Locals brand Crookes community garden an &#8220;eyesore&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Residents have called for the restoration of a once beloved community garden that has fallen into ruin.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The land at the top of Cobden View Road is currently owned by a developer, who was given permission to build on the land in June 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite this, the garden has been fenced off, graffitied on and used as a fly tipping site, leaving locals concerned for its worsening appearance.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The land also had an alleyway that locals would use as a shortcut between Cobden View Road, Crookes high street and towards Westways Primary School which is now inaccessible.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A shop owner on Crookes highstreet, who has been in the area for 16 years, says she remembers when the area was used for a community project where locals and volunteers would tend to the garden.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said: \u201cIt was very pretty and tidy, it had grass, shrubs and flowers. It should be restored to what it was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPeople were very angry about it because it was a beautiful garden that has been destroyed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"551\" height=\"411\" src=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Flytipping-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-48358\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Flytipping-1.png 551w, https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Flytipping-1-480x358.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 551px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Joanne Cutts, 56, a gym owner has lived in Crookes since birth, she said: \u201cIt\u2019s an eyesore, anything would look better, it looks horrendous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;All they&#8217;ve done is stick a crappy fence up and it looks awful.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ms Cutts hopes it will be made into a park with some benches as it once was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Laura Oates, 37, a florist has been in the area for 12 years, she said: \u201cThere\u2019s been a lot of talk about it &#8211; it would be nice if it was a garden for dog walkers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Locals continue to discuss the future of the garden and hope that the community space will be restored.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Residents have called for the restoration of a once beloved community garden that has fallen into ruin.
