He estimates that around 80-85% of his client base are women&#8217;s footballers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fletcher said: \u201cWith women&#8217;s football in particular, there is just nowhere near the same kind of <a href=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2023\/05\/12\/leading-expert-believes-reliance-on-mens-football-clubs-is-hampering-the-progress-of-the-womens-game\/\">structure<\/a> or competitive level across the board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere are some that have done very well in developing the women\u2019s programmes at university here in England and Wales, but it sort of pales in significance to the US where they have several hundred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt largely comes down to funding, which is probably the most obvious factor.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/image001-min-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-47051\" width=\"277\" height=\"415\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/image001-min-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/image001-min-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/image001-min-768x1151.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/image001-min-1025x1536.jpg 1025w, https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/image001-min-1080x1619.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 277px) 100vw, 277px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">David Fletcher of Athleticademix (Credit: Athleticademix)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>US colleges have approximately <a href=\"https:\/\/www.collegescholarshipsusa.com\/news\/womens-soccer-in-the-usa\/\">1,700<\/a> women\u2019s football programmes. The 1972 \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.history.com\/news\/title-nine-womens-sports\">Title Nine<\/a>\u2019 order, which established equality among the sexes in federally-funded US education programmes, has seen US soccer develop a structural foundation that continues to eclipse the UK structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fletcher has worked with a number of young UK stars including former Tottenham <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tottenhamhotspur.com\/teams\/women\/news\/talent-pathway\/womens-academy\/\">academy<\/a> player Izzy Lane and current England Under 19 international Emily Brough, who attends <a href=\"https:\/\/clemsontigers.com\/sports\/womens-soccer\/\">Clemson<\/a> University, South Carolina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fletcher spent his university life in the US college system, having had a four-year college soccer career at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flsouthern.edu\/home.aspx\">Florida<\/a> Southern College.
