Roz Davies, who joined the company as CEO last year, saw the award as an opportunity for the company to gain recognition for its environmental efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">So this happened! <br><br>Deserved recognition for all the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Green_Estate?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@green_estate<\/a> talented and dedicated staff, volunteers and partners who have worked so hard over the last 20 years growing beautiful, adaptive and resilient urban landscapes. <br><br>Thank you <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheKingsAwards?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@TheKingsAwards<\/a>   <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/TheKingsAwards?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#TheKingsAwards<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Dg3NIKOJgy\">https:\/\/t.co\/Dg3NIKOJgy<\/a><\/p>&mdash; @Roz@Mastodon.Green (@roz_davies) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/roz_davies\/status\/1649405375362355200?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 21, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Andrea Nix, who is part of Green Estate\u2019s management team, said: \u201cWe\u2019re as pleased as punch &#8211; we honestly can\u2019t believe it still.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a real honour for the community too &#8211; in the eighties, Roy Hattersley described this as the worst estate in Britain!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ms Nix described how the Manor estate was previously a \u201cwasteland\u201d of \u201cderelict buildings, stray dogs and burnt out cars\u201d before the dramatic environmental turnaround.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She explained that its heritage site Sheffield Manor, the Parkland wild turf research, and its landscaping services are all geared towards sustainability.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It introduced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sheffield.gov.uk\/planning-development\/local-planning-guidance\/sustainable-urban-drainage-design\">Sustainable Urban Drainage Designs<\/a> (SUDS) to Manor Fields Park, which it has managed for close to a decade. Green Estate is now involved with current efforts by Sheffield Council to regenerate the Castlegate area of the city using SUDS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8216;Superbloom&#8217; flowers from the company&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pictorialmeadows.co.uk\/\">Pictorial Meadows<\/a> were used in decorative arrangements at both the Platinum Jubilee and 2012 London Olympics celebrations. Image from Green Estate.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The company\u2019s<a href=\"https:\/\/greenestate.org.uk\/about\/\"> mission<\/a> includes increasing Sheffield\u2019s recycling figures, reducing the carbon footprint of transportation across the city, and diverting organic matter from landfill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its team of 70 employees and over 40 volunteers work across 2.4 acres of land surrounding Sheffield Manor to \u201cgrow engaging, adaptive and resilient urban places\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Volunteers that help out with gardening and maintenance get to take home a share of the vegetables grown on the sites. \u201cIt\u2019s green therapy,\u201d said Ms Nix, \u201cIt gets people out of the house, gets them active and learning new skills, and socialising here helps with mental health and isolation too.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"373\" src=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Sustainability-Banner-1024x373.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-46309\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Sustainability-Banner-980x357.png 980w, https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Sustainability-Banner-480x175.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Volunteers working onsite. Image from Green Estate.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Another point of pride is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenestaterecycling.co.uk\/\">waste recycling site<\/a> at Manor Oaks Cottages, which was initially set up in 2004 alongside Heeley City Farm. Local residents can drop off any \u201cclean green waste\u201d for free, such as branches, leaf, shrub, grass and hay cuttings, and non-invasive weeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over 148 \u201coutstanding\u201d UK companies were chosen to receive the first ever King\u2019s Awards this year, across categories such as innovation, international trade, and promoting social mobility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister for Enterprise Kevin Hollinrake said: \u201cI congratulate the first ever recipients of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/best-of-british-business-celebrated-as-the-first-kings-awards-for-enterprise-recipients-revealed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The King\u2019s Awards for Enterprise<\/a>, who exemplify the talent, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit of British business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI wish them every success and commend the invaluable contributions they make to communities both at home and overseas, helping to grow the UK economy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Twelve companies across Yorkshire and the Humber were amongst the winners, with Green Estate being one of two selected for sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second recipient was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.naturaw.co.uk\/\">Naturaw<\/a> Pet Food Ltd. based near Leeds, which uses solar power to make natural, unprocessed dog food.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-instagram wp-block-embed-instagram\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"sbi-embed-wrap\"><blockquote class=\"instagram-media sbi-embed\" data-instgrm-captioned data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/Cpm_oRPM_fP\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF;
