{"id":45581,"date":"2023-03-27T13:18:37","date_gmt":"2023-03-27T13:18:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=45581"},"modified":"2023-03-27T13:29:29","modified_gmt":"2023-03-27T13:29:29","slug":"nether-edge-farmers-market-raised-thousands-on-25th-anniversary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2023\/03\/27\/nether-edge-farmers-market-raised-thousands-on-25th-anniversary\/","title":{"rendered":"Nether Edge Farmers&#8217; Market raised thousands on 25th anniversary"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Nether Edge&#8217;s quarter-yearly farmers&#8217; market is estimated to have raised around \u00a32,600 for charity as it commemorates its 25 year anniversary on Glen Road.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The market held yesterday (26 March) celebrated the area&#8217;s flurry of independent businesses who each paid a fee to sell their products on individual stalls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The stall-fee goes to Nether Edge Neighbourhood Group (NENG), who donates the proceeds to two local charities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The last market donated half of the proceeeds to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sheffieldyoungcarers.org.uk\/\">Sheffield Young Carers<\/a>, which supports young carers and young people affected by drug and alcohol issues in their family. The rest went to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.benscentre.org\/\">Ben&#8217;s Centre<\/a>, a shelter providing food and warmth for people who suffer from substance abuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s always people charities. It&#8217;s always about the people,&#8221; said Marion Gerson, a volunteer for NENG. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ms Gerson, who oversees stall-holder applications, described the team as &#8220;part of the glue for the community&#8221;. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s quite hard work but I do it because I enjoy it,&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year, Sheffield businesses Beanies Wholefoods, Coocoo C&#8217;est Moi, Buttons Attic, JAM Artworks, and Autumn Harvest Mushrooms were among the many that made an appearance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ms Gerson said the day was really important for stall-holders, who usually perform well at the event as one of the best of its kind in the city. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rebecca Wainwright, owner of <a href=\"https:\/\/buttonsattic.co.uk\/\">Buttons Attic,<\/a> also praised the market. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said: &#8220;It&#8217;s always such a great event, a busy bustling market with wonderful shoppers and fellow stalls, I love it when my little shoppers are wearing my makes too &#8211; it makes my weekend.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/netheredge-market-5--1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-45668\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/netheredge-market-5--980x735.jpeg 980w, https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/netheredge-market-5--480x360.jpeg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">CooCoo C&#8217;est Moi at Nether Edge Market <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.netheredge.org.uk\/markets\/market-principles\/\">the Farmers\u2019 Market Planning Group<\/a>, the market began in March 2008 as a way of &#8220;putting Nether Edge on the map.&#8221; They hoped it would become a place for people to &#8220;meet, greet, and eat&#8221; alongside upholding the ethos of &#8220;thinking globally, acting locally.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s just a feeling of belonging. It&#8217;s actually one of the few things I find that has a sense of neighbourhood to it,&#8221; Ms Gerson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The market has been scaled down since the pandemic, meaning stall-holders have more space and less competition and tend to do well as a result.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The market has raised over \u00a390,000 over the years, with this year&#8217;s final total yet be confirmed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next farmers&#8217;
