A Sheffield-based publisher has announced the start of its new men\u2019s writing group on Wednesday to support those struggling with their mental health. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Divine Collective<\/a>, a non-for-profit organisation, is offering the group for men to be creative and share their experiences in a safe and supportive space. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The organisation also wanted to open up their services to men due to the statistics on men’s mental health. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Men are three times more likely to die by suicide than women according to the Mental Health Foundation<\/a> with the Priory Group<\/a> which found 40 per cent of men don\u2019t talk about their mental wellbeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Founder and creative wellbeing coach, Siobhan Louise, 34, from Hillsborough, said: \u201cThe organisation was started as a platform to give people a voice and offer a message of hope and empowerment to others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI want this new group to give men an opportunity to express themselves and heal through writing as a creative outlet.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The organisation believes writing is a powerful tool to connect with yourself and overcome trauma as well as benefiting the immune system by reducing stress. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having worked specifically with women, including when publishing the Amazon bestselling book \u2018Words of the Wise\u2019<\/a>, Ms Louise wanted to extend the opportunity of writing to men due to the lack of gender-specific spaces available to them to discuss their mental wellbeing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms Louise said: \u201cThere\u2019s still a culture for men of bottling things up and I want to help overcome that stigma. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis group isn\u2019t just about sharing experiences. It’s also about learning from others and realising you\u2019re not alone as that can be a great weight off your shoulders.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshops will be fluid in structure and plan to offer a range of written activities to tailor to individual needs.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms Louise has stressed that people shouldn\u2019t worry about their writing ability as the exercises aren\u2019t designed to be challenging, they\u2019re just a tool for sharing thoughts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said: \u201cA lot of people haven\u2019t written since they were at school, so there\u2019s absolutely no pressure to have existing writing experience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe want the group to be accessible for everyone and we will also cater for any additional needs anyone might have including spelling.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the future, the organisation hope to offer men in the group the opportunity to write a book like \u2018Words of the Wise\u2019<\/a>, which was an anthology written by women who have faced trauma and other struggles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first men’s writing session will start on Wednesday evening at The Rutland Arms <\/a>and will hopefully become a monthly event, but people are urged to check the Facebook page<\/a> for when and where the next event might happen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop will be co-hosted by David Heimerdinger, who has a background in somatic therapies<\/a> like breathwork and supporting men through trauma healing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s a suggested donation of \u00a38 but the organisation runs a \u2018pay what you feel\u2019 system. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
