{"id":45172,"date":"2023-03-20T11:17:52","date_gmt":"2023-03-20T11:17:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=45172"},"modified":"2023-05-14T12:07:27","modified_gmt":"2023-05-14T11:07:27","slug":"mental-health-charity-sodit-to-offer-new-peer-support-group-for-women-and-non-binary-people-in-sheffield","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2023\/03\/20\/mental-health-charity-sodit-to-offer-new-peer-support-group-for-women-and-non-binary-people-in-sheffield\/","title":{"rendered":"Mental health charity offers support for women and non-binary people in Sheffield"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A &#8216;life-changing&#8217; mental health charity has announced the launch of its new peer support group for women and those who identify as women or non-binary.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sheffieldmentalhealth.co.uk\/services\/survivors-of-depression-in-transition-sodit\">Survivors of Depression in Transition (SODiT) <\/a>is a predominantly peer-led organisation that aims to support those struggling with isolation and their mental health.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trustee and mental health adviser, Jill Wood, 55, of Foxhill, said: \u201cI can\u2019t even put into words how amazing this group is for women.&nbsp;I\u2019ve been volunteering with this organisation since 2019 and it\u2019s been so invaluable that it\u2019s changed my life.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group\u2019s new sessions will launch this Thursday and are going to offer a safe space for women to open up and confide in others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The get-togethers will continue to run every Thursday from 5.15pm to 6.30pm in Unit 4 at <a href=\"https:\/\/syacltd.co.uk\/home-2-2-2-2-2-2\/#!\/team\">SYAC Business Centre<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The organisation already offers a peer support group on a Tuesday afternoon, but the team, which includes CEO Stephanie de la Haye, felt it was a great time to start a new workshop on a Thursday evening to allow more women to join in.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ms Wood said: \u201cA lot of women work or have childcare responsibilities, so we wanted to extend the group and get more people involved.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;In the other group, a lot of the women have been coming for years, so we wanted a fresh group where everyone is starting together from the same point in their journey with us.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/IMG_4199-1-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-45189\" width=\"-364\" height=\"-486\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Tuesday peer group&#8217;s Christmas meal. Credit: Stephanie de la Haye<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s no pressure to talk and the sessions will be hosted in a relaxed environment where members can have a hot drink, some biscuits and feel free to discuss their experiences if they want to.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group also offers social activities like meals out and hope to run massage and yoga sessions in the near future, so there\u2019s something for everyone to enjoy.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ms Wood said: \u201cWe\u2019re an incredibly welcoming and lively bunch of women, but people are more than welcome to just take a back seat, listen and enjoy the space if they prefer.
