{"id":44732,"date":"2023-03-06T11:46:25","date_gmt":"2023-03-06T11:46:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=44732"},"modified":"2023-03-07T11:10:54","modified_gmt":"2023-03-07T11:10:54","slug":"short-dance-film-chinese-laundry-wins-best-in-category-at-the-sheffield-adventure-film-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2023\/03\/06\/short-dance-film-chinese-laundry-wins-best-in-category-at-the-sheffield-adventure-film-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"<strong>Short dance film \u2018Chinese Laundry\u2019 wins best in category at the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival<\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A short dance film displaying the exceptional story of a British Chinese immigrant in South Yorkshire has won the \u2018Made in Sheffield\u2019 category during this weekend\u2019s Sheffield Adventure Film Festival (ShAFF).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Produced and acted by Tala Lee-Turton, &#8216;Chinese Laundry&#8217; is based on her experience growing up in a Chinese takeaway shop in Barnsley.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tala, on making the film, said: \u201cIt&#8217;s something that I always thought about, but never really thought of starting until I got a commission opportunity which I applied for and surprisingly won.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The film&#8217;s background takes place in the Peak District which is said to reflect the <a href=\"https:\/\/shaff.co.uk\/shaff23\/chinese-laundry\">&#8220;cyclical banality and frustration experienced from within the daily grind of the dry cleaners, contrasting with aspirations to feel freely Chinese and British.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Tala-Lee-Turton-headshot-1024x1022.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-44738\" width=\"411\" height=\"410\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Above: Tala Lee-Turton (Xenia at Xavod Studio)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Tala highlighted the importance of her three-person crew who shot the film in one day, with director Patricia Zhou receiving a special mention,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of Ms Zhou, Tala said: \u201cShe was someone that had experience in front of and behind the camera.
