{"id":44698,"date":"2023-03-06T14:33:54","date_gmt":"2023-03-06T14:33:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=44698"},"modified":"2023-03-06T14:42:54","modified_gmt":"2023-03-06T14:42:54","slug":"we-want-it-to-belong-to-sheffield-free-festival-in-woodseats-to-be-expanded-to-more-city-suburbs-after-turnout-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2023\/03\/06\/we-want-it-to-belong-to-sheffield-free-festival-in-woodseats-to-be-expanded-to-more-city-suburbs-after-turnout-success\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cWe want it to belong to Sheffield:\u201d Free festival in Woodseats to be expanded to more city suburbs after turnout success"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Woodseats Live is the cultural event that shook Sheffield&#8217;s music scene on Saturday, seeing over 90 artists perform to bars crowded with hundreds of people, all eager to have a good time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The festival took place on March 6 across 10 popular venues in Woodseats, including The Abbey and Chantrey Arms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ciaron Elm, 34, is a Freelance Entertainment Consultant, and an organiser behind Woodseats Live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: \u201cThere\u2019s people from all walks of life in this city, from all over the world, and from all kinds of different backgrounds.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We want to make sure there is an accessible way to see all of the wonderful culture and art that we have on offer in Sheffield.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image0-4.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-44871\" width=\"431\" height=\"237\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Ciaron Elm has been gigging in Sheffield for 20 years. Photo: Mal Whichelow<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The event was sponsored by Turner Guitars, Finale Guitars, and Finale Music School, and there has been interest by future sponsors to expand the festival across the city. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plans are underway for Heeley and Meersbrook Live this May, and locations such as London Road and Abbeydale Road will follow later in the year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Attendee Theo Parmakis, 29, a local instrument maker, said: \u201cI think it&#8217;s a good way to bring people together. Sheffield is big but small, and an event like this feels like it draws a lot of people in from various different circles.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Future festival goers can expect to see visual art and installations added to the long set list, along with the music and comedy showcased by Woodseats Live.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Set up as a community interest operation, all profits go into carrying on the events and paying the performers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Elm said: &#8220;We want it to belong to Sheffield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith the difficulties that entertainment faced through the pandemic, there will always be some channel for artists to be paid for their time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over 200 artists applied to perform on Saturday, and those who missed out can apply for future festivals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Elm said: &nbsp;&#8220;We have to work together to support the whole industry and keep it alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think this time next year, the live music scene in Sheffield is going to be really back on the map.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Woodseats Live 2023\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Y43gSw564YM?feature=oembed\"  allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Woodseats Live is the cultural event that shook Sheffield&#8217;s music scene on Saturday, seeing over 90 artists perform to bars crowded with hundreds of people, all eager to have a good time.
