{"id":44610,"date":"2023-02-27T16:43:48","date_gmt":"2023-02-27T16:43:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=44610"},"modified":"2023-02-27T16:54:03","modified_gmt":"2023-02-27T16:54:03","slug":"sheffield-girls-school-football","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2023\/02\/27\/sheffield-girls-school-football\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheffield schools to take part in \u2018biggest ever\u2019 football session for girls"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>An upcoming nationwide campaign encourages girls at school to take part in football in an all-day event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefa.com\/news\/2021\/oct\/11\/letgirlsplay-20211011\">#LetGirlsPlay<\/a> is spearheaded by the FA and Barclays, and aims for girls to have the same football opportunities as boys in schools and clubs by 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Schools are encouraged to sign up for their next event on 8 March, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.englandfootball.com\/play\/youth-football\/in-education\/letgirlsplay\">\u201cBiggest EVER Football Session\u201d<\/a> 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"#LetGirlsPlay\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/p-opraxMzIU?feature=oembed\"  allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The FA said that only 63 per cent of schools currently offer girls\u2019 football in PE lessons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.englandfootball.com\/articles\/2022\/Mar\/10\/90k-girls-involved-in-let-girls-play-event-in-England-20221003\">90,000 girls<\/a> from 1450 primary and secondary schools took part in last year\u2019s instalment of the programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Former England international and Barclays ambassador Kelly Smith MBE told the FA: \u201cWhen I started my journey in football, I had no other choice but to play in a local boys\u2019 team and I wasn\u2019t offered the opportunity to play football in school during PE lessons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The campaign is one that\u2019s very close to my heart and something I am extremely passionate about when it comes to providing equal access to football for young girls.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The campaign can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefa.com\/news\/2021\/oct\/11\/letgirlsplay-20211011\">FA\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>#LetGirlsPlay is spearheaded by the FA and Barclays, and aims for girls to have the same football opportunities as boys in schools and clubs by 2024.
