{"id":44100,"date":"2023-02-20T16:10:31","date_gmt":"2023-02-20T16:10:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=44100"},"modified":"2023-02-21T15:19:28","modified_gmt":"2023-02-21T15:19:28","slug":"techno-with-a-twist-a-unique-and-intimate-evening-in-the-sheffield-suburbs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2023\/02\/20\/techno-with-a-twist-a-unique-and-intimate-evening-in-the-sheffield-suburbs\/","title":{"rendered":"Techno with a twist: A \u201cunique and intimate\u201d evening in the Sheffield suburbs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Crookesmoor\u2019s favourite bar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/berlincallingsheffield\/\">Berlin Calling<\/a> and events brand [TARA] have announced an evening of ambient techno that starts during the day rather than at night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event, organised by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/t.a.r.a_0114\/\">Techno And Resonance Association [TARA]<\/a>, takes place on Saturday 25 February, starting at 4pm and ending at midnight, the time it would usually start.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Organiser and DJ Ben Marks said: \u201cWe\u2019ve got all the people that might not be able to afford a trip out into town, or people that need to work, that can come to their local and have a solid evening of music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn the 1990s, big venues weren&#8217;t in the cities. We see with the COVID pandemic and the recession that people don\u2019t go out in big towns anymore &#8211; they\u2019re going to the suburbs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/png_20230220_144809_0000-min-1-1024x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-44107\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/png_20230220_144809_0000-min-1-980x980.png 980w, https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/png_20230220_144809_0000-min-1-480x480.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>[TARA] is the brainchild of sixth form student Mr Marks, who wants to promote a more ambient side of techno, in a city that has long been associated with bass music and late nights.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The evening is described by [TARA] as being in a \u201cunique and intimate suburban space\u201d rather than one of Sheffield\u2019s many larger music venues.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rising local DJ <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/porter_brook__\/\">Porter Brook <\/a>will be headlining, with a variety of support from other electronic and techno artists;, including Westfall, JP Rooney, and as well as Mr Marks himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 18-year-old&nbsp; DJ also commented that there is no competition for a techno event that took place in the evening rather than the night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added: \u201cA night that\u2019s on from 11pm &#8211; 4am, you potentially have six other nights to compete with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBerlin Calling is in an area that everyone can come down and see. It\u2019s respectful to people. We don\u2019t want to run anything until 5am in a suburban area.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"752\" height=\"752\" src=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/IMG_20230215_170805_925-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-44112\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/IMG_20230215_170805_925-1.jpg 752w, https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/IMG_20230215_170805_925-1-480x480.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 752px, 100vw\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Credit: Ben Marks<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Sheffield has always been a champion of cultivating exciting acts and spaces in the music scene.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is home to vibrant and alternative venues such as Bal Fashions, whose Apricot Ballroom party was voted one of the best club nights in the UK by Time Out Magazine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[TARA] and Berlin Calling are not alone in their mission to reimagine the clubbing scene.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Irish DJ Annie Mac is hosting her own DJ sets across the country this April with a similar twist &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.anniemacmanus.com\/dj\">Before Midnight<\/a><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.anniemacmanus.com\/dj\"> <\/a><\/em>also<em> <\/em>ends at the stroke of twelve.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The party aims to cater for those who aren\u2019t able to stay out until the early hours.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Marks added: \u201cThis is the first of many events for [TARA]. If we can make this successful, I hope to run stuff monthly.
