{"id":43736,"date":"2022-12-12T15:58:10","date_gmt":"2022-12-12T15:58:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=43736"},"modified":"2022-12-12T16:39:03","modified_gmt":"2022-12-12T16:39:03","slug":"mental-health-charitys-christmas-party-fundraiser-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2022\/12\/12\/mental-health-charitys-christmas-party-fundraiser-success\/","title":{"rendered":"Mental health charity&#8217;s Christmas party fundraiser success"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Christmas fundraiser for a Sheffield mental health charity welcomed hundreds through their doors last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sheffieldflourish.co.uk\/\">Sheffield Flourish<\/a> who organised the event to support those who are struggling with their wellbeing in a bid to raise funds to ensure they can carry on providing a service for their users. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Around 250 people bought a ticket which was held at SADACCA in Castlegate, last Thursday (8 December) raising over \u00a32500.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Managing Director of Sheffield Flourish, Josie Soutar, said: \u201cWe wanted to have a really fun event, one we\u2019d want to go to ourselves, so that people could forget all their worries for the night whilst raising money for the organisation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The organisation, which was established in 2012, runs activity-based groups for people struggling with mental health issues, including arts, theatre, music and football.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_8939s.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-43739\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_8939s.jpg 900w, https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_8939s-480x320.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 900px, 100vw\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Raffle held to raise money for Sheffield Flourish.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><p>This was the first  official fundraining event hosted by the organisation, in a bid to to give something in return to donors, during the cost of living crisis.<\/p><span style=\"font-size: revert;\">Ms Soutar said: \u201cIt\u2019s particularly tough at the minute when everyone\u2019s feeling the pinch.<\/span>&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The funds will go towards heating Flourish\u2019s main building, maintaining their digital resources, and equipment for their support groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Guests took part in a pub quiz and raffle and live music was provided hip-hop\/Afro-fusion emcee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.franzvon.co.uk\/\">Franz Von<\/a>, as well as the 40-piece, female-identifying local choir <a href=\"https:\/\/www.neighbourhoodvoices.co.uk\/\">Neighbourhood Voices<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_8872s.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-43740\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_8872s.jpg 900w, https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_8872s-480x320.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 900px, 100vw\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Food by Sunshine Pizza Oven.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ms Soutar said: \u201cThe event has proved to us that there\u2019s a good feeling amongst the mental health community that we could put on a bigger, better event.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gina Walters, founder of Neighbourhood Voices, told Sheffield Wire Flourish contactedher several months ago, to get her involved in the Christmas event.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She said: \u201cSheffield Flourish has a very tight-knit community &#8211; very creative and artistic. We all need to look out for each other as a community, look after ourselves and rest, and prioritise mental health.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sheffieldmentalhealth.co.uk\/\">Sheffield Mental Health Guide<\/a>, run by the organisation, is an online directory where users can find all local services and support groups targeted at any mental health condition they struggle with.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The guide, which reaches 85,000 people, is currently targeted at adults, but from next year the charity aims to expand this resource to cover services for people of all ages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Flourish, which is run by a core team of eight part-time staff, aims to \u2018support people to use their skills, ideas and talent to build the lives they want.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The organisation has already been approached by venues in the city to plan further fundraising events, which are likely to happen during summer 2023.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Christmas party fundraiser by the mental health organisation Sheffield Flourish welcomed hundreds of guests to SADACCA, Castlegate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":111,"featured_media":43737,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_et_pb_use_builder":"","_et_pb_old_content":"","_et_gb_content_width":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[6],"tags":[926,11,598,113,14,924,923,927,9,925,922],"class_list":["post-43736","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-castlegate","tag-charity","tag-christmas","tag-fundraiser","tag-mental-health","tag-mental-health-awareness","tag-party","tag-sadacca","tag-sheffield","tag-sheffield-flourish","tag-xmas"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.5 -
