{"id":43440,"date":"2022-12-09T15:45:54","date_gmt":"2022-12-09T15:45:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=43440"},"modified":"2022-12-12T14:59:26","modified_gmt":"2022-12-12T14:59:26","slug":"warm-and-welcoming-spaces-are-ready-to-cater-for-sheffield-communities-this-winter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2022\/12\/09\/warm-and-welcoming-spaces-are-ready-to-cater-for-sheffield-communities-this-winter\/","title":{"rendered":"Warm and welcoming spaces are ready to cater for Sheffield communities this winter"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Whether it be a free lunch, hot shower or charging facilities, there are many spaces in Sheffield to help cut down bills throughout this increasingly cold cost-of-living crisis.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The temperature in Sheffield will drop to -3\u00b0 next week, leaving people with the tricky choice of whether or not to turn their heating on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thankfully, the number of welcome and warm spaces are growing, and are available to everyone, regardless of their means.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Louise Viner, manager of the Darnall Community Hub Galeed House, said: \u201cHow people feel about accessing these spaces is important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve called it a welcome space because there was a slight fear that the publicity would suggest if you\u2019re too poor to heat your house, then you come here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We don\u2019t mind if someone can or can\u2019t afford our free bread, it\u2019s free and we\u2019re giving it away.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Galeed House has an open space every second and fourth Tuesday of the month from 11am &#8211; 1pm, offering hot veggie soup, tea and coffee and bread donated from <a href=\"https:\/\/roses-the-bakers.com\/our-shops\/\">Roses <\/a>Bakery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also caters for the Muslim community: there are male and female volunteers and separate rooms for those who choose not to mix with the opposite sex.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHeading somewhere where you can relax for a bit and you don\u2019t have to worry about the heat or electricity bills is really great,\u201d Mrs Viner said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rotherham United have also set up a project to combat the cost of living crisis this winter.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Collaborating with Rotherham United Community Sports Trust, the \u2018Every Miller Matters\u2019 campaign has created a space at AESSEAL New York Stadium, where people can go to chill out, watch TV, charge their phones and stay warm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Similarly, they said: \u201cWe would like to remind everyone that there is absolutely no shame whatsoever in reaching out for help. This is help that we want to offer people.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below is a list of warm and welcoming spaces around Sheffield, where all are welcome and help is
