Despite the odd technical hitch, Barnsley Bright Nights got underway yesterday, with events running until tomorrow and thousands of visitors expected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rain stopped just in time for people to gather outside the Glass Works where the entertainment and tree lighting was taking place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was also a crowd sing-a-long led by The Lips from Puppets with Guts<\/a>, a giant disco ball, and even Father Christmas himself made an appearance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other attractions include a nine-metre long giant snail, an illuminated parade, glass blowing and lantern-making workshops. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cllr Robert Frost, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture at Barnsley Council, said: \u201cBarnsley Bright Nights is always a spectacular occasion, and we look forward to welcoming thousands of visitors over the three days. This creative, free festival offers entertainment for all ages and interests.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lights were turned on by the Mayor of Barnsley Sarah-Jane Tattersall, but a slight technical issue meant the lights on the main tree took a little longer to light up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
