{"id":40770,"date":"2022-05-06T14:56:31","date_gmt":"2022-05-06T13:56:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=40770"},"modified":"2022-05-06T14:56:31","modified_gmt":"2022-05-06T13:56:31","slug":"exclusive-green-councillor-who-ousted-labour-last-night-says-he-represents-all-voters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2022\/05\/06\/exclusive-green-councillor-who-ousted-labour-last-night-says-he-represents-all-voters\/","title":{"rendered":"EXCLUSIVE: Green councillor who ousted Labour last night says he represents all voters"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>A newly-elected Sheffield Green Party councillor has said he represents all people in the ward of Hillsborough, where he ousted the incumbent Labour candidate last night.<\/p>\n<p>Cllr Henry Nottage unseated Labour&#8217;s Josie Paszek, who had been a councillor in the ward since 2014.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>He told\u00a0<em>Sheffield Wire<\/em>: &#8220;If anyone has ideas that will help the area, or any issues, our doors are open.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We do want to help you, and although I was voted in by the Green votes, I do represent all people in the ward.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">I&#8217;m seeing a lot of Green in Hillsborough! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/4xUQpL24np\">pic.twitter.com\/4xUQpL24np<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Henry Nottage (@Henry_Nottage) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Henry_Nottage\/status\/1518291493630394370?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 24, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Cllr Nottage said he will now focus on supporting local businesses and bringing the community together by allocating funding to community garden projects.<\/p>\n<p>He said some areas of Hillsborough appear run-down, which does not reflect what&#8217;s happening on the ground.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Cllr Nottage said the gardens are a &#8220;win win&#8221; for the council as they do not have to pay for upkeep, and it brings volunteers in the ward together.<\/p>\n<p>A new all-wheel vehicle track in Hillsborough Park is also something Cllr Nottage will be supporting, including having bikes available for young people to borrow if they do not have access to equipment.<\/p>\n<p>Cllr Nottage said of the night: &#8220;It was a great result for the Green Party and I would like to say a massive thanks to the people of Hillsborough for putting their trust in me.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Green Party had a net gain of one seat across the city, gaining ground from Labour in both Hillsborough and Gleadless Valley.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A newly-elected Sheffield Green Party councillor has said he represents all people in the ward of Hillsborough, where he ousted the incumbent Labour candidate last night.
