{"id":39607,"date":"2022-03-28T15:00:21","date_gmt":"2022-03-28T14:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=39607"},"modified":"2022-03-28T15:00:21","modified_gmt":"2022-03-28T14:00:21","slug":"sheffield-united-community-foundation-invested-1-5m-in-local-communities-last-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2022\/03\/28\/sheffield-united-community-foundation-invested-1-5m-in-local-communities-last-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheffield United Community Foundation invested \u00a31.5m in local communities last year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new impact <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sufc-community.com\/impact\/\">report<\/a> from Sheffield United Community Foundation has showed how the charity has invested almost \u00a31.5 million in local communities from 2020 to 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The report, published last week, listed tens of projects organised by the club, including disability football sessions for young people aged eight and above, LGBT+ empowerment initiatives, and Fans Fighting Cancer sessions for those over 16-years-old.<\/p>\n<p>Other sessions focussed on men&#8217;s mental health and grassroots girls&#8217; football teams.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\ud83d\udc67 Our brand new Girls Youth Club starts soon!<\/p>\n<p>See below for all the details \ud83d\ude4c <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/nWCTbznAd6\">pic.twitter.com\/nWCTbznAd6<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Sheffield United Community Foundation (@CommunitySUFC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CommunitySUFC\/status\/1504829390970044425?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 18, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Chris Bailey, Head of Sheffield United Community Foundation, said: &#8220;If 2020 to 2021 has shown us anything, it is that regardless of the challenges we face, or the success we celebrate, if we share these with each other, not only will we be supported, we will become truly united.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The report highlighted the story of Claire, a regular participant in the Fans Fighting Cancer programme after being persuaded to attend by members of another cancer support group.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_39617\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-39617\" class=\"wp-image-39617 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/awesome-shockley.77-68-72-77.plesk.page\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Claire-300x175.png\" alt=\"Photo Credit: Sheffield United Football Club Community Foundation\" width=\"300\" height=\"175\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-39617\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Photo: Sheffield United Football Club Community Foundation<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p>Claire said the programme has given her the confidence to participate in exercise after her diagnosis, as well as make new friends with similar life experiences.<\/p>\n<p>She said: &#8220;It&#8217;s been a lifesaver really, during lockdown. I used to be quite fit before I got my cancer, but it really affected my fitness.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s really food to be able to do things at your own level.
