{"id":39388,"date":"2022-03-28T11:34:16","date_gmt":"2022-03-28T10:34:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=39388"},"modified":"2022-03-28T11:34:16","modified_gmt":"2022-03-28T10:34:16","slug":"sheffield-half-marathon-returns-raising-thousands-for-charities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2022\/03\/28\/sheffield-half-marathon-returns-raising-thousands-for-charities\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheffield Half Marathon returns raising thousands for charities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sheffield Half Marathon returned yesterday to glorious sunshine and eager participants raising thousands of pounds for great causes.<\/p>\n<p>A 9:30am start saw runners and spectators gather at Arundel Gate from as early as 8am.<\/p>\n<p>The 13-mile route through the city to the edges of the Peak District was pounded by thousands &#8211; many raising money to support charities near and far.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LF8Ym_PhI6E\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Emma Clarke, Chief Executive of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westonpark.org.uk\/\">Weston Park Cancer Charity<\/a>, took part in the event alongside a team of sixty, raising around \u00a330,000.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Clarke said: &#8220;The Half Marathon is incredibly important. We are stood here in the middle of Sheffield and it gives that amazing sense of community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is ordinary people, families, and businesses, all getting behind some amazing causes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Weston Park Cancer Charity supports specialist cancer hospitals across the country, as well as research in Sheffield to help enhance treatments for the disease.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Egx_OktFGFs\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Also running was Mike Provert, raising money for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sheffieldchildrens.nhs.uk\/\">Sheffield Children&#8217;s Hospital<\/a>, where he works and has first-hand experience of the vital treatment sick children receive.<\/p>\n<p>He said: &#8220;I know that we make a big difference to children&#8217;s lives and it&#8217;s really worthwhile raising this money as it goes towards a) the quality of their care and b) their enjoyment at the hospital.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Entries for the Sheffield Half Marathon 2023 are now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.runforall.com\/events\/half-marathon\/sheffield-half-marathon\/\">open<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sheffield Half Marathon returned yesterday to glorious sunshine and eager participants raising thousands of pounds for great causes.
