This area is in need of something unique that will bring businesses here some footfall.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This development will help bring people back to the area and will hopefully help businesses like ours to grow again.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_38921\" style=\"width: 363px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-38921\" class=\"wp-image-38921\" src=\"https:\/\/awesome-shockley.77-68-72-77.plesk.page\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/276156605_2232815336866267_2655747710188211240_n-300x169.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"353\" height=\"199\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-38921\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The development will be built on the junction between Surrey Street and Leopold Street.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The project is a partnership between Sheffield City Council and Steel Yard, a local company specialising in shipping container architecture.<\/p>\n<p>The Fargate project follows Steel Yard Kelham, a shipping container development in Kelham Island featuring restaurants, bars and shops.<\/p>\n<p>Natalie Hudson, who owns a Champagne bar in Steel Yard, said the containers honour Sheffield&#8217;s industrial heritage:\u00a0&#8220;It&#8217;s a real positive addition to Sheffield&#8217;s dying city centre.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Funding was secured through the Government\u2019s Get Britain Building Fund and is part of the Heart of the City project to develop the city.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_38919\" style=\"width: 340px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-38919\" class=\"wp-image-38919\" src=\"https:\/\/awesome-shockley.77-68-72-77.plesk.page\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/275994225_2232815346866266_2819172944141853521_n-300x169.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"330\" height=\"186\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-38919\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The development will include shops, bars and restaurants.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Only two months after plans were put in place, planning permission was granted last Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The site was designed by Sheffield architecture firm Aad architects.<\/p>\n<p>Despite some concern the development will attract anti-social behaviour, councillor for the city centre Martin Phipps said: &#8220;This will help draw people into the area and provide much needed toilets for the city centre.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I do not believe these events bring anti-social behaviour to the area, and to an extent increased footfall in the area can help prevent anti-social behaviour, as well as adding an attraction to the area that people enjoy and come to visit.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The development comes as the council hopes to approve plans to build 20,000 new homes in the next 18 years with accompanying leisure facilities, outdoor spaces and transport connections.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The council&#8217;s \u00a3300,000 project to rejuvenate &#8220;Sheffield&#8217;s dying city centre&#8221; begins, with plans for more shops, seating, cafes, a big screen and toilets.
