{"id":38767,"date":"2022-03-14T16:49:16","date_gmt":"2022-03-14T16:49:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=38767"},"modified":"2022-03-14T16:49:16","modified_gmt":"2022-03-14T16:49:16","slug":"sheffield-searches-for-talented-blind-footballers-with-new-initiative","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2022\/03\/14\/sheffield-searches-for-talented-blind-footballers-with-new-initiative\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheffield searches for talented blind footballers with new initiative"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A new scheme for blind footballers of all abilities is hoping to produce future England players after it kicks off this Saturday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/swfccp.co.uk\/\">Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme<\/a> will help deliver the B1 programme which will include high quality training sessions from Sheffield Wednesday staff and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">aims to give new opportunities for blind and visually impaired people to try football.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The scheme is hoped to produce future England disability players and one volunteer has already been scouted by coaches in the lead up to the initiative.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Julie Callaghan, Disability and Inclusion Football Development Officer at Sheffield and Hallamshire County FA, said: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt\u2019s about realisation of dreams, to be able to play at that level.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We had a volunteer turn up and one of the England Blind coaches identified them as a blind footballer that could play for England within the next 12-months, with work. He could be a role model in Sheffield for future young players in Sheffield.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Ahead of the launch of our new <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/BlindFootball?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#BlindFootball<\/a> initiative, Project B1.
