{"id":38052,"date":"2022-02-28T15:56:08","date_gmt":"2022-02-28T15:56:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=38052"},"modified":"2022-02-28T15:56:08","modified_gmt":"2022-02-28T15:56:08","slug":"sheffield-festival-of-the-outdoors-returns-for-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2022\/02\/28\/sheffield-festival-of-the-outdoors-returns-for-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheffield Festival of the Outdoors returns for 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In March, Sheffield will celebrate the Festival of the Outdoors throughout the city.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Events include the Internatio<\/span>nal Climbing Festival, the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival and the Howard Street Duel, a mountain bike race in the city centre.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-38253\" src=\"https:\/\/awesome-shockley.77-68-72-77.plesk.page\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/EM-1-3-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"462\" height=\"308\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are events for everyone, from beginners to experienced adventurers, and those who don&#8217;t fancy getting active, such as art exhibitions and craft events.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Mark Mobbs, marketing director for Sheffield Council&#8217;s Outdoor City campaign, said: &#8220;This is a really great showcase of what Sheffield&#8217;s all about.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;We\u2019re the spiritual home of climbing, we\u2019ve got some of the best mountain biking and then there\u2019s incredible access to walking and running. It\u2019s amazing but all of it\u2019s intertwined with the culture of a big city and that\u2019s what we\u2019re trying to bring to the festival.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Festival goers can go straight from kayaking in the River Don to Pollen Flower Market, or from night orienteering in Kelham Island to enjoying True North&#8217;s Peaky Climbers, a beer brewed specially for the festival.<\/p>\n<p>Not only this, but the diverse range of events encourage everyone to get involved, Mr Mobbs said: &#8220;\u2018It doesn\u2019t matter where you\u2019re from or what your background is, there\u2019s something for you to get involved in.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-38247\" src=\"https:\/\/awesome-shockley.77-68-72-77.plesk.page\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/days-off-credit-Richard-Baybutt_Cotic-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"458\" height=\"305\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The festival&#8217;s events are accessible to all, with groups like Cycling 4 All taking part. The organisation is providing a chance for people with disabilities to try adapted trikes at the festival. Tom Collister, the organisation&#8217;s co-ordinator, said: &#8220;We want everyone to experience the feeling of the wind in their hair.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Although the Festival of the Outdoors benefits locals, it has placed Sheffield on the map as a world renowned outdoor city. The city will host international events like the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival and the International Climbing Festival.<\/p>\n<p>Co-organiser of ShAFF, Anna Paxton said: &#8220;<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s a way of connecting adventurers around the world and in Sheffield itself.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-38256\" src=\"https:\/\/awesome-shockley.77-68-72-77.plesk.page\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/03-ShAFF-Poster-Snow-ns-300x207.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"362\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ms Paxton hopes we can regain the momentum and enthusiasm for the outdoor city lost due to the pandemic.
