{"id":37889,"date":"2022-02-28T10:46:41","date_gmt":"2022-02-28T10:46:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=37889"},"modified":"2022-02-28T10:46:41","modified_gmt":"2022-02-28T10:46:41","slug":"yorkshire-silent-film-festival-returns-to-sheffield-for-2022-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2022\/02\/28\/yorkshire-silent-film-festival-returns-to-sheffield-for-2022-season\/","title":{"rendered":"Yorkshire Silent Film Festival returns to Sheffield for 2022 season\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Abbeydale Picture House will become Yorkshire\u2019s Silent Film hub this March, showing thrillers, comedies and westerns until July.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All the films will be accompanied by a live orchestra, who will improvise their scores alongside the films.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-37897\" src=\"https:\/\/awesome-shockley.77-68-72-77.plesk.page\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Frame-Enseble-cello-violin-c-Timm-Cleasby-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"479\" height=\"319\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The event will be held at venues throughout Yorkshire and beyond, with showings in Leeds, Hull, York and Manchester.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Event organiser Jonny Best said: \u201cWe\u2019re bringing films to Sheffield that you can\u2019t see anywhere else.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSeeing live music with film is a really immersive and enjoyable experience, especially when you\u2019re somewhere as atmospheric and interesting as the Abbeydale.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-37895\" src=\"https:\/\/awesome-shockley.77-68-72-77.plesk.page\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Jonny-Best-artistic-director-Yorkshire-Silent-Film-Festival-1-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"474\" height=\"316\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year, urgent repairs in the main auditorium has led organisers to convert the picture house stage to a cinema, but Mr Best says this should not deter audiences.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He told the Sheffield Wire: \u201cIt\u2019s a unique experience in a place audiences don\u2019t get to see ordinarily.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt\u2019s an absolutely beautiful space.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-37892\" src=\"https:\/\/awesome-shockley.77-68-72-77.plesk.page\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Frame-Ensemble-in-Abbeydale-Picture-House-c-Timm-Cleasby-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"495\" height=\"330\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The smaller auditorium will create an intimate atmosphere between the audience, the film and the musicians as they create \u201ca bridge between the audience and century old films.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The festival is also offering free tickets for under 18s, and organisers are encouraging people unfamiliar with the genre to try it out. Mr Best said: \u201cIt\u2019s a lot of fun.
