{"id":37309,"date":"2022-02-21T15:42:32","date_gmt":"2022-02-21T15:42:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=37309"},"modified":"2022-02-21T15:42:32","modified_gmt":"2022-02-21T15:42:32","slug":"two-south-yorkshire-cafes-amongst-the-uks-20-most-loved-local-businesses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2022\/02\/21\/two-south-yorkshire-cafes-amongst-the-uks-20-most-loved-local-businesses\/","title":{"rendered":"South Yorkshire caf\u00e9 and tea room amongst the UK&#8217;s 20 most loved local businesses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Barnsley tea room and Doncaster board game caf\u00e9 have been voted two of the UK&#8217;s most loved businesses out of 4,000 nominees.<\/p>\n<p>The list was created by <a href=\"https:\/\/shopappy.com\/\">ShopAppy<\/a>, an online service which aims to revamp the high street by allowing people to browse, book and buy from local businesses.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"South Yorkshire businesses make UK&#039;s most loved businesses list\" width=\"1080\" height=\"810\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-nlb2fE7W14?feature=oembed\"  allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bakebattleroll.co.uk\/\">Bake Battle and Roll<\/a>, a board game caf\u00e9 in Doncaster and the <a href=\"https:\/\/english-rose-tea-room.business.site\/\">English Rose Tea Room<\/a>, Hemingfield beat businesses from 200 towns and cities across the UK to make the list.<\/p>\n<p>Adrian Barnard, who owns the English Rose Tea Room just outside Barnsley, said: &#8220;<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It makes you feel amazing and really proud of what we do, and the enjoyment we give to people to keep them coming back.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re a family run business and this makes you feel prouder of that, like what you&#8217;re doing is valued and worthwhile.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-37819\" src=\"https:\/\/awesome-shockley.77-68-72-77.plesk.page\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Screenshot-2022-02-21-at-19.14.55-167x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"167\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This community spirit is key to the tea room, Mr Barnard said:<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8220;We&#8217;ve got a fantastic customer base and loyal customers. So massive thanks to them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> know our customers personally, you get to know them as friends as well as customers and they want your business to succeed.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>After opening five years ago, their business has gone from strength to strength, opening their new Wombwell tea room opening in March.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-37644\" src=\"https:\/\/awesome-shockley.77-68-72-77.plesk.page\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/273974188_3246605122240299_2210580068891121100_n-191x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"372\" height=\"584\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As well as the tea room, Mr Barnard&#8217;s wife Suzie also runs a beauty salon above the caf\u00e9, so customers can enjoy a facial before their afternoon tea.<\/p>\n<p>Another South Yorkshire husband and wife duo also made the list with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bakebattleroll.co.uk\/?fbclid=IwAR2ygxqrV1GK4eJAyWPcxTbof59yIXhv-pGMMyqaJpOUeCRkaOStv9xV0m0\">Bake, Battle and Roll<\/a>, a board game caf\u00e9 in Doncaster.<\/p>\n<p>Rachel Whitehouse, 30, and James Whitehouse, 41, said: &#8220;T<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">o win a spot in the top 20 was amazing. <\/span>T<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here&#8217;s so many great businesses in town. It was really, really great.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-37621\" src=\"https:\/\/awesome-shockley.77-68-72-77.plesk.page\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/bbb-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"492\" height=\"328\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The pair attribute their success to going the extra mile, community building and always striving for inclusivity.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Rachel, board games offer a unique opportunity to connect with your local community, she said: &#8220;I love the community feel of Doncaster in general. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It&#8217;s really nice to put your phones down for a bit and have a conversation over a board game.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Everyone talks to everyone here which is really, really awesome.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>After the caf\u00e9 was forced to move online just a year after opening, the owners continued their business online, hosting Dungeons and Dragons games, quizzes and more.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-37624\" src=\"https:\/\/awesome-shockley.77-68-72-77.plesk.page\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/cafe-300x212.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"446\" height=\"315\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But Rachel and James missed the community they had built around the caf\u00e9. They told the Sheffield Wire: &#8220;I<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">f you want to buy a board game from Amazon, you go online and get them. But what you can&#8217;t get is someone who will help you to play it, you can&#8217;t get the community.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-37630\" src=\"https:\/\/awesome-shockley.77-68-72-77.plesk.page\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/games-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"479\" height=\"319\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As the pandemic eases, their business continues to grow, and will soon move to a bigger location on Cleveland Street, Doncaster.<\/p>\n<p>These two South Yorkshire businesses were amongst 14 winners from Yorkshire and 4,000 nominations from all over the UK.
