Every year the venue is used to bring people together to sing carols and celebrate the work of the project.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_36993\" style=\"width: 330px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-36993\" class=\"wp-image-36993 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/awesome-shockley.77-68-72-77.plesk.page\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IMG_0948.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IMG_0948.jpg 320w, https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IMG_0948-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-36993\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sheffield Cathedral<\/p><\/div>\n<p>There are currently an estimated 4,200 people on the streets in Yorkshire and the Humber.<\/p>\n<p>Tim Renshaw, CEO of the Archer Project, said: \u201cThe project was started because of compassion, seeing people hungry, cold and placeless and the basic human response to that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>By simply inviting those people into the cathedral for a hot drink, the Archer Project was born, and it has grown from there.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Renshaw told Sheffield Wire that more was now known about homelessness and there was an approach that worked with people on the street through to people getting into employment.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cEmployment is a wonderful thing, employment is a chance to meet people, feel as though we\u2019re doing something. It offers much more than just pay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sheffieldcathedral.org\/the-archer-project\/\">The Archer Project<\/a> offer lots of various services such as health, accommodation and being part of society.<\/p>\n<p>Dean of Sheffield cathedral, Abi Thompson, ran today&#8217;s carol service and told us it had been great to see the project grow and develop into what it is now and that they work extremely hard to give people food every day.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_36990\" style=\"width: 330px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-36990\" class=\"wp-image-36990 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/awesome-shockley.77-68-72-77.plesk.page\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IMG_0961.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IMG_0961.jpg 320w, https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IMG_0961-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-36990\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dean of Sheffield cathedral Abi Thompson<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Soup and bread were given out after the service and many homeless people that the charity helped turned up.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_36989\" style=\"width: 330px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-36989\" class=\"wp-image-36989 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/awesome-shockley.77-68-72-77.plesk.page\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IMG_0966.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IMG_0966.jpg 320w, https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IMG_0966-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-36989\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Post service soup and bread<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Chris Lynam, 38, <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/W_7AHhGVT88\">performed one of his poems<\/a> in the service which told the story of suicide and loss and had the whole cathedral captivated.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_36985\" style=\"width: 330px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-36985\" class=\"wp-image-36985 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/awesome-shockley.77-68-72-77.plesk.page\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IMG_0972.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IMG_0972.jpg 320w, https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IMG_0972-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-36985\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chris Lynam, 38<\/p><\/div>\n<p>He told Sheffield Wire he came from an abusive childhood, he was led down some dark paths such as mental illness, addiction and substance misuse.<\/p>\n<p>In the summer of 2017 Chris got released from prison halfway through a three year and nine-month sentence and was homeless with not a lot of prospects for the future.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Lynam said: \u201cI don\u2019t know where my life would be now if I didn\u2019t walk through the doors here.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former homeless people told stories and read poetry to support a charity that helped them off the streets today.
