{"id":35723,"date":"2021-12-03T16:48:47","date_gmt":"2021-12-03T16:48:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=35723"},"modified":"2021-12-03T16:48:47","modified_gmt":"2021-12-03T16:48:47","slug":"south-yorkshire-firefighters-raise-almost-70000-for-firefighters-charity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2021\/12\/03\/south-yorkshire-firefighters-raise-almost-70000-for-firefighters-charity\/","title":{"rendered":"South Yorkshire firefighters raise almost \u00a370,000 for charity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two South Yorkshire firefighters <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cycled 1,000 miles to provide the FireFighter&#8217;s Charity with a new sensory garden.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-36205\" src=\"https:\/\/awesome-shockley.77-68-72-77.plesk.page\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Jubilee-House-Wellbeing-Garden-Photos-2020-11-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"638\" height=\"425\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Image: The garden to be renovated<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mark Peart, 35, Brompton and Paul Simmonite, 57, <\/span>joined forces with the Suffolk Fire Service to smash their 50k fundraising target by cycling the length of the UK.<\/p>\n<p>The funds are for a sensory garden at Jubilee House, a rehabilitation centre for fire fighters and their families.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Peart said: &#8220;The charity took a huge hit during Covid.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;They have two rehab centres so anyone can go who is suffering from physical or mental illness. The facilities are amazing.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The renovated garden will provide a space for the charity to carry out training and rehabilitation outdoors.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Fire Fighter&#039;s Charity Fundraiser, The Longest Ride\" width=\"1080\" height=\"810\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Y4usMD1IRZs?feature=oembed\"  allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Dr Jill Tolfrey, the Chief Executive of the Fire Fighter&#8217;s Charity said: \u201cEvery pound raised will allow us to fund life-enhancing health and wellbeing support for members of the fire services community in need today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The organisation focuses on the physical and mental health of Fire Fighters, and the Longest Ride wanted to highlight this.<\/p>\n<p>Every day, each rider shared a message talking about their mental health journey in order to combat stigma around mental health in the emergency services.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Peart said: &#8220;<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018As firefighters, sometimes you can be put on a pedestal and seen to be these hard people that can endure a lot. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But we have an opportunity to put a message out that everyone has these vulnerabilities as strong as everyone seems, most people are dealing with something.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-35967\" src=\"https:\/\/awesome-shockley.77-68-72-77.plesk.page\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Eb7t-yIUMAACFZZ-copy-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"523\" height=\"393\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Mark Peart, Fire Fighter for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue.<\/p>\n<p>The 10 day ride tested the team of 20 involved. Mr Peart said: &#8220;I enjoyed it but everyday was tough&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The support we got was amazing, we knew we were gonna smash our target but we didn\u2019t predict we would get as much as we did.&#8221; <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The South Yorkshire firefighter raised \u00a32,577, more than double his target.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> He said: &#8220;it drives you to do more and raise as much as you can&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Work on the sensory garden will begin soon.
