{"id":33407,"date":"2021-05-04T11:30:03","date_gmt":"2021-05-04T10:30:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=33407"},"modified":"2021-05-04T11:30:03","modified_gmt":"2021-05-04T10:30:03","slug":"12-year-old-boy-smashes-donation-goal-after-running-90-miles-in-april","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2021\/05\/04\/12-year-old-boy-smashes-donation-goal-after-running-90-miles-in-april\/","title":{"rendered":"12-year-old-boy smashes donation goal after running 90 miles in April"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 12-year-old schoolboy has raised more than ten-times his goal amount for charity after running 90 miles in one month.<\/p>\n<p>Riley Frost decided to raise money for the hospital charity because he was treated for bacterial meningitis at the hospital when he was 10 days old.<\/p>\n<p>Riley opened the donation page saying: &#8220;I will be running 90 miles throughout April to raise money for a charity that is very close to my heart. I will be using a tracking app and lots of photographs to track my progress and posting regular updates. I\u2019m really excited to start this and would mean the world to me to get as much support as possible.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The initial goal was to raise \u00a3150 for the Sheffield&#8217;s Children&#8217;s Hospital Charity and so far he has made \u00a31,940.<\/p>\n<p>Riley ran an average of three miles each day, and on some days running six miles after football training. With the help of his mum, Caroline, and dad, Dale, Riley documented the journey by posting a picture of himself and the route he took after each run.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-33473\" src=\"https:\/\/awesome-shockley.77-68-72-77.plesk.page\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Riley-Run-1-174x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"174\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Riley-Run-1-174x300.jpg 174w, https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Riley-Run-1.jpg 417w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 174px) 100vw, 174px\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-33474\" src=\"https:\/\/awesome-shockley.77-68-72-77.plesk.page\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Riley1-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Mrs Frost also kept the public updated with Riley&#8217;s progress by posting status, photo, and video updates on Facebook and posted videos of Riley running on TikTok.<\/p>\n<p>Riley had help and support from friends and family, and on 30 April crossed the home-made &#8216;finish&#8217; line to receive a large celebration and a certificate, with the donation total at \u00a31,658.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@carolinefrost6\/video\/6956994897685531909?lang=en&#038;is_copy_url=0&#038;is_from_webapp=v1&#038;sender_device=pc&#038;sender_web_id=6958371244619449862\">http:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@carolinefrost6\/video\/6956994897685531909?lang=en&amp;is_copy_url=0&amp;is_from_webapp=v1&amp;sender_device=pc&amp;sender_web_id=6958371244619449862<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Riley posted on the fundraiser page after his final run and said: &#8220;A fantastic way to end my fundraiser, thank you all for coming to cheer me on and thank you for all the donations and support. My just giving link will be open for a further two weeks. \ud83d\udc99&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Freya Kingswood, Senior Events Fundraising Assistant at The Children\u2019s Hospital Charity, said: \u201cWe would like to say a huge thank you to Riley for his fantastic fundraiser over the course of April.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThanks to his hard work, he ran an incredible distance and raised an amazing amount for Sheffield Children\u2019s Hospital.
