We study the birds extensively before taking on the task of breeding them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe could have easily killed hundreds of poor animals because of his selfish behaviour.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Terence Potter, 64, of Cumberworth Lane, Huddersfield was arrested after complaints were made to the South Yorkshire Police that a man was believed to be taking eggs from the wild across Yorkshire and Derbyshire.<\/p>\n<p>He was given a 12-week suspended sentence and fined \u00a3248 at Sheffield Magistrates\u2019 Court last Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Other residents were dissatisfied by Porter\u2019s 12-week suspended sentence.<\/p>\n<p>Kay Wyatt, 66, said: \u201cWhat&#8217;s the point? The police work hard to get their man and protect the wildlife. The sentence isn\u2019t a deterrent, it\u2019s a joke.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bernard Weakend added: \u201cIn the States, poaching protected animals can carry up to a maximum $250,000 fine and up to two years in prison. It is sad he only got a slap on the wrist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sheffield Rural and Wildlife Crime Officer, PC Elizabeth Wilson, said the police took Wildlife offences very seriously in South Yorkshire.<\/p>\n<p>She said: \u201cWe have beautiful countryside that is inhabited by wildlife and it\u2019s our job to protect and preserve the lives of the animals, to protect species from decline, not take or capture them for personal gain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Along with the 200 eggs, officers also found an incubator containing seven unhatched eggs, which were taken to Smiths Nursery in Thorngumbald to be cared for until they hatched, and taxidermy items.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_33118\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-33118\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-33118\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sheffieldwire.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2021\/04\/Golden-Plover-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-33118\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A Golden Plover<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The birds, four baby chicks, three Golden Plover and one Curlew, were released back into the wild in Hull\u2019s countryside.<\/p>\n<p>Tom Grose, RSPB Investigations Officer, said: \u201cWe are pleased with today\u2019s outcome, which sends a strong signal that such thoughtless destruction of wildlife, for personal gain, will not be tolerated.
