{"id":30178,"date":"2021-02-22T16:12:58","date_gmt":"2021-02-22T16:12:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sheffieldwire.co.uk\/?p=30178"},"modified":"2021-02-22T16:12:58","modified_gmt":"2021-02-22T16:12:58","slug":"the-moor-sold-for-discount-price-due-to-the-pandemic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sheffieldwire.co.uk\/index.php\/2021\/02\/22\/the-moor-sold-for-discount-price-due-to-the-pandemic\/","title":{"rendered":"The Moor sold for discount price due to the pandemic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the key shopping areas in Sheffield city centre has been bought by a real estate company for \u00a341m.<\/p>\n<p>NewRiver has purchased The Moor, a 28-acre retail and leisure site, and discusssions are planned for the potential development of 1,400 residential and student flats.<\/p>\n<p>Previous owner, Aberdeen Standard, took a huge hit after the plot was sold for &#8220;far below the breakup value of the site.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>New shops, flats and leisure centres are likely but there is uncertainty over the future of the Debenhams department store, which is set to close permanently this year.<\/p>\n<p>Allan Lockhart, chief executive of NewRiver, said: \u201cThe acquisition of The Moor with our joint venture partner BRAVO represents a rare opportunity at a very attractive price.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSheffield City Council has demonstrated that it is a forward-thinking and proactive local authority, and we look forward to working with them to deliver a vibrant and connected city centre.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Moor, which is anchored by Next, Sainsbury\u2019s, and an occupier-owned Primark, was bought by Aberdeen Standard in 2010, which spent \u00a3120m redeveloping it.<\/p>\n<p>NewRiver bought The Moor estate in a joint venture with Bravo Strategies.
